A mad dog ersated a wild scene early
Wednesday morning In the vicinity of
147 Decatur street, snapping at several
people, and causing a stamped*.
The canine failed to bite anyone, but
made several vicious attempt*. At

people In the street and they lost no
time in vanishing Into the nearest place

noon a shooting occurred across the
river, which resulted In the death of a
negro named Dykes, who ha* been em
ployed b^t the Artesian Drilling Works
or some time. Dyke* vraa shot by Will
Baker because Dykes had come to his
home to see Baker’s wife. Baker or
dered. Dykes away, but ha sesmsd to

South, and Atlanta will be the destina
tion of a much larger share' of these
travelers than ever before," declared
Houstoun R. Harper, manager of the
publicity bureau of Harvey A Woods,
lessees of the Piedmont hotel of this
city, who arrived In the city Tuesday
night, after .spending three months In
the East in the Interest of the summer
travel to the several resorts controlled
by the Arm he represents. Mr. Harper
will devote his time during the next
few weeks In preparation for the re
ception of several thousand delegates
who are expected to bs In Atlanta In
the fall to attend tbe several conven
tions which are to be held here.

held in Atlanta In the fall, Mr. Harper
stated that several were of the greatest
Importance and would attract thous
ands of people from alt-walks of life to
Atlanta, which, he said, would un
doubtedly become In a few years the
New York" of the South.
"The Carriage Builders' National As
sociation, one of the largest organisa
tions of the kind In the world, will hold
Its thirty-fourth annual meeting In At
lanta from October 22 to 27, In con
nection with the Southern Vehicle As
sociation, and that means that Atlanta
will be tilled with thousands of dele
gates,” continued Mr. Harper.
“Never before In Its history has this
mammoth association held Its annual
meeting In the South, for heretofore
the officers have contended that there
was no city of sufficient stse to furnish
entertainment and lodging for such in
army of men as will be present. Not
only from every state In this country,
but from England, Canada and Mexico,
hundreds of delegates attend this con
vention, and the hotels of Atlanta will
be taxed to their utmost to. show the
visitors the true hospitality for which
this section of the country Is noted."

which the hotel proprietors have rea
son to expect In the fall and winter and
to Insure the comfort of It* guests, the
Piedmont hotel la undergoing th# most
thorough renovating In Its history. All
the wood work Is being repainted and

and as soon as It arrive* will be put la

gether the hotel Is preparing for the
