In our market, the principal effect of the
financial disturbance abroad waa another
terday, and at tbe opening and for tiie
first half hour prices moved upward very
geueraly. After that, realising sales were

deal of pressure and short selling, the no
tion prevailing, as It had yesterday, that
the market had risen too huddlj* to hold

The stock market opened Irregular, but
became generally firmer after the first
few minutes of business. The Initial prices

conda opened off a point and recovered

losses, following the unfavorable morning
news from Russia, were recovered on the
appearance of heavy buying orders when
the market turned again, and declined
under the Influence of Brooklyn Rapid Tran
sit. The weakness In the stock was based
on freely circulated reports that the stato
railroad commlslson will today band down
a ruling directing tho reducing of fares to
6 cents In all parts of the borough of
Brooklyn. Reading and St. Paul were also
weak. The room trodera after the. early

since have been vigorously hammering the

hardly as unfavorable os many expected,
and liquidation followed the document at
mid-day. Early in the day a* slight recov
ery In Urerpool led to short covering and a
moderate rally, and this In turn was fol
lowed j>y the selling that carried prices to
within a few points of the low level
