re t opened barely steady 1 to 4 points
lower, with a fair trade In new crop
position, which left the effects of good

week-end evening up of operations. The
market at New Orleans opened 2 points
lower on new crop months and there
after ruled about steady. After the
call prices In the local market showed
very little change, averaging about

movement on tha stock exchange con

after the bank statement appeared, hut
buying orders poured In again quickly
and the best prices, as a rule, wore
reached at the close.
It was plainly enough another In
stance where the average system un
derstated Vie true position of the
banks. In the faro of yesterday’s pre
dictions of a 87,000,000 cash Increase
the banka showed a gain of only 83,<
300,000, and aa loans expanded 813,700,
000 on the week, the surplus reserve
fell off 3500,000.
