Pineapple Cure For Women Afflic ted With Rheumatic Voice Fruit Should Be Eaten Daily to Cure This Affliction of Vocal Cords With Which, Says Specialist, Fair Sex is Afflicted. That hundreds of women and girls suffer with rheumatic voices without even realizing what is the matter with .hcl,- vocal cords, and that more than j me ^i’tie of ^ naif of the fair sex In this city have a touch of rheumatism In the organ of speech Is a statement recently made by a throat specialist, who declares that though this condition Is annoy ing It Is* not necessarily' dangerous or It does not follow that the speech will ever be entirely lost. In its mild form he says that It can be almost entirely' llmlnated by the diet and careful and regular habits of living. “Rheumatism manifests Itself In the throat by hoarseness In the voice, sore ness or a decided pain In the tonMla.” , "and yet few women know that there Is anything the nintter. They dismiss It with the thought that It iu what they call a cold in the tonsils, vocal cords, etc., take a little sooth ing cough mixture or a wash for the Inflamed parts and forget about it. They do not know that when this con dition Is constantly recurring It means something more than a simple cold and that It takes regular if simple treat ment, such as can be given at home, to keep If from becoming troublesome. “One of the best remedies I know for this disease Is the use of pineapple al cords, for it gives them a nd contraction follows, and often 1 animation, that Is painful. "Besides pineapple, I would reeom pples and plent apple sauce for the average person hns a rheumatic voice, and I w advise them against eating orange and bananas, for both Increase acid, and unless a person Is absolut Iy sure that these fruits agree, they should not indulge In them. "This disease Is often aggravated, not actually Increased, by the constant use of candy, especially that chocolate, cocoa, vanilla flavor fact, sweets of any kind should be ta ,kcn sparingly If the voice Is often hus or there is a soreness In the ton ELLAVILLE. By far the most pleasant of sum mer outings was the house party giv en by Mr. and Mrs. W. L. English, of Brown wood, Ga. f and Mr. and Airs. S. A. Royal, of Ellnvlllo, at the popular little summer resort, Myrtle Springs. The crowd was large and very Jolly. ■ - w- amusements being indulg ed In. such as driving morning and af ternoon, bathing and playing various fames. From EUaville and Ameri cas other guests came. Those present were Mr. and Airs. S. A. Royal, Aliases Louella Woods; Myrtle® Strange, * Minnie Royal, Messrs. H. T. Dixon, E. R. Jordan, R. H. Strange. E. N. Colurron, Grady Royal, of Kllavllle. English, J. E. Chapp- »an and I*nul Westbrook, of Ameri- 2»s, Ga.; John Wall, Broxton, Ga.; Htsrles Baldwin, Richmond, Va.; S. 8 Dukes, Bartow, Fla. ROC KMART. • Thursday evening a Jolly crowd en- fcyed a moonlight drive to the pretty jpuntry home of Air. W. W. Simpson. Composing the party were Aliases Gra. c Ferguson, Corrlo Morgan, Ruby Johnston, Beulah Connally, of Atlanta; Annie Maynor, of Birmingham; Messrs. George Dansby, Ben Fisher, James De- »er, Joyner, Barclay Morgan. Dr. and Mrs. Keith, Air. and Airs. George Walker. Ml** Beulah Connally, of Atlanta, is the guest this week of Miss Willard 8t»rk. Ml** Annie Maynor, of Birmingham, “ visiting Miss Julia Morgan. Miss Annie Lovelace hns returned to Atlanta, after attending *lth her aunt, M It should be eaten at least once a day, and a syrup from It drunk slowly. A lilt of sugar used with tills fruit makes It more palatable, but I would not make it too sweet, for sugar does not tend to reduce the rheumatic state of the ocnl cords. J Tomatoes and Strawberries Tabooed. "For the average woman or girl suffering with this chronic hoarseness, pain, etc., I should advise her never to eat tomatoes, strawberries or lettuce, for these contain the very acids that accentuate the disease, and for that reason should never be taken. "Alcoholic beverages, especially when drunk to excess, have a detrimental effect on the voice, Just as have many of the soft drinks. Coffee, too, is in jurious to many persons If taken mors than once a day, for It Is not good for the liver, and anything that af fects the stomach acts directly upon tho throat and voice, and for that rea son more effective treatment can be secured by a careful diet than by ad ministering medicines. Tea and milk are good'to drink, if they agree with an Individual, but no liquid or food should ever be taken when It Is either very cold or excessively hot, for either ex treme Is particularly bad for the yd* parts of America and many of Ashe ville’s matrons and other members of the society set were among the dancers. At midnight an elaborate lunch tens served, after which dancing was re sumed. A delightful dance, though not largely attended, was given at the Alanor Wednesday night. Thursday night the management of the Battery Park Hotel entertained at a banquet In honor of the viators to the convention of lawyers. This was a pleasant affair and was attended by several hundred of the visitors and their friends. Friday night another dance was glv en at the* Battery Park Hotel, which was attended by the lawyer*. Among the recent a*\lvnls nt the Battery Park Is Airs. J. C. Hunter, o Atlanta, who has spent several sea sons m Asheville. Mrs. Hunter hns many friends here, and her presence Is a delight to the voting people of th ! “ city. Air. and Mr*. Bnrrelt Phlnl'/y. < Athens, Ga., are lure fir a •'•ay • f sev eral weeks. Aim. 1 nrrett him visited here for the past several years. Alls* Kydle Coward, of Beaumont, Tex., one of the charming young wom en who spends per summers In Ashe ville. arrived yesterday. Kertlg and Mlpfie# Rosa and Daisy Moody, of Birmingham, are at the Manor f »r ihe summer. To Obtain 8weet Voice. "For the person who wishes tc tlvate a pleasant speaking vc rhould say there wei« no better to follow about eating than those that, that the prlma donnas observe, one familiar with their habits It be useless to say that they never over load their stomachs, and instead of taking a heavy meal, aH most of us do. they eat light food and tali oftener, frequently ns many ns flv six times during a day, but they n eat to excess and always on a diet that they know agrees with them. Fof Instance, some of them take no for it Is not easy for them to digest It, while others ent all they want of it As a rule, they see to It that they have plenty of sleep and rest, and IncI dentally plenty of the right kind of exercise. "Now If a woman with n rheumatic voice follows these rules with the modifications that suit her case, or one who has no trouble with her throat, the quality of the tonp should improv. for ns the general health gets better fmniedlately manifests itself in the. voice, which gains strength and often beauty and purity of tone. "As to preventing complications In the throat, I know of no surer way than by careful treatment of th® teeth. Tin should ba a habit’ that Is never peg tected for even a single meal, for noth Ing Is more dangerous than to Jiav particles of food. In which germs gath er, collect around th® gums, for sooner or later these pass Into the throat and then the damage 1st done. The teeth, to, should be kept In good repair by dentist, and any little cavity that ap pears should be cleaned out nnd filled Immediately as a protection again: rheumatism In the throat" JASPER, ALA.
