August 13.—As the be havior of the market In the last half hour of Saturday’s session had fore- xhndowed, no serious Influence was eg. •reined today either by the heavy shrinkage of bunk reserves or by the comparative firmness which followed It In today's money market. Both call and time loans were maintained at last week’s higher level, but quotations went nd higher. The bulk of the day’s new credit business on the stock ex change was arranged for from 4 to 1-3 per cent. On the other hand, some encouragement was afforded by a further decline In sterling exchange to day, and by the disclosure that the banks start the week with a gain of 31,100,000 in their operations at the subtreasury. The ruling ngures on de mand sterling are now so closs to tho gold Import point that engagements at any moment are likely. If money rates were to rise any higher than they are It would Immediately precipitate the movement, and It Is evident that rely ing on this Is why the stock market re fuses to take a more serious view of the money outlook.
