throne of the empire of all the Rus-

anniversary Sunday, having been born
on August. 12, 1*04. The fete day was
made the occaalon of a lavish display
of flags, but there was no public en
thusiasm manifested.
The principal Incident was the pre
sentation to the csarevltch of a mag
nificent Ikon, supposed to be the out
ward and visible sign of the love nnd
loyalty of the men of the Manchurian
army, who were lighting the Japanese
on the day he was born. -

Is of gold, Is Inset with rubles and
pearls, and cost 20,000 rubles. This
money was subscribed—the captious
say "exacted"—from the soldiers of
every regiment now or formerly In the
Far East.
