a dividend of 5 per cent for the half year
on Union I'nclfle stocks and the announce
ment that Southern 1 *ncfllc had been placed

ing news which greeted Wall street flf-
teen initiates after the o|ieiiliig today. This,
with the sensational price movement which
followed, will rank the whole episode at
one of the most remarkable lu the history
of the stock exrImage. The utmost that
had been expected on Union I'nclllc stock
up to the close of business yesterday waa
a dividend at a rate of 7 per cent a year,
and with some sort of extra distribution.
