ADE ON ENGLISH HUMOR. George Ade declares the English have \ sense of humor, but the humor must be something other than the American brand. "All humor is local," said Mr. Ade. "What Is funny In Chicago Isn’t funny In New' York. It Is the same the worjd over—locality has everything to with It. "The English have a sense of humor, of course, but It Is very different from ours. They appreciate Impossible sit uations, when they are portrayed, very keenly.’ A favorite bit of comedy with them Is the part of the play when the servant masquerades as the mistress— it seems so utterly absurd and Impossi ble to them to lyive the servant putting on the airs of the master or mistress that they laugh very heartily. You see. It depends entirely on the point of view. ^American humor does not appeal to the English people, because they can’t appreciate It tight away and don't care enough about it to Investigate it. If an English show’ Is presented on this side we all go and make a fuss over It und rer the actors. It there Is a situation hlch we do not see at first we sit down nnd figure It out until we get it. lover there they don’t see It, and they "DIAMONDS BRING SUCCESS.” By our partial payment plan you can wear a nice diamond while paying for It This la the beat way to apend money and at the same time aave It 'To be successful, look aucceiaful; wear a beautiful diamond. EUGENE V. HAYNES CO. The Diamond Palace. 37 Whitehall St. don't care whether they do or not “That la one thing that I resent very much—the American adulation for ev erything British and the way the Brit ish treat the Americana. They alwaya talk down at one from an angle of <8 degrees. When an English actor comes over here nothing la too good for him. He gets Invited everywhere nnd entertained In the most hospitable manner. When an American actor goes over there he la received at the elation by having 300 pounds of Ice put In his lap, and that Is alt he gets while he la over there." IN HONOR OF~MISS CATE.
