“The members of this committee
act as organisers, establishing In each
county seat associations of the women
whose especial duty is to Improve and
take charge of the school houses which
they or their neighbors’ children fre
quent. These organizations are formed
with the cuatomary officers and various
committees are suggested to them, such
as a committee on building, on grounds,
on books, etc., whose duty Is to raise
funds to Improve the facilities already
there or to supply those lacking.
“Nor are the city schools overlook
ed, associations being formed with aux
iliary organizations for each school
house within the city limits. And. al
though the movement has been In ex
istence hardly two years, the results
have already proved moat encourag
ing, prophesying a future replete with
frutl In the shape of neat, cheerful,
sanitary school buildings, supplied
with the necessary facilities for im
parting Instruction to evry boy and
girl In Alabama.”

Charlotte, who are guests at Kenil

number of their friends at a subscrip
tion six-hand euchre party last Fri
day evening. There were six tables.
The first ladles’ prize, a bridge set,
was won by Mrs. J. B. Danforth; the
second prize, a picture, by Mrs. E. B.
Moore, and the consolation prize was
awarded to Mrs. Barton. The first
gentleman’s prize, a handsome ’ silver
mounted cork screw, was won by Mr.
W. B. Westlake.
