Vicksburg military park commission,
who are going to that city In October
to dedicate the Illinois monuments
erected there, are to stop ofT In Jackson
on their way back home. Many of the
members of the commission and visit

ticipated In the battles around this

Wells, Judge of election In the Twelfth
ward, testified on the witness stand In
the franchise election contest before
Judge Benjamin B ..Lindsey, that she
was approached by S. S. Campbell, of
the Denver Gas and Electric Company,

chise. She added that an additional
offer was made of a position In the
gas company's office for her niece If the

Oklahoma City, Okla., Aug. 22.—
James F. Sharp, who says he Is Adam,
and a band of follower, number about
50, marched through the streetB today
from their abandoned camp outside of
the city. They are on thetr way to
the Pacific coast. Sharp led a parade
of half nude persons through the
streets here about a year ago, which
resulted In one of the band being sent
to the asylum.
Sharp returned here a few weeks ago
and established a camp east of town,
where many of hla followers went with
out clothing, under the belief that they
were in the Garden of Eden. They were
arrested time and time again and
fined. ' *
In the parade through the streets
today were many little children who
had inarched. Covered wagon# con-
taining a dozen or more babies brought
up the rear of the pajode.

datnan has written a letter to one of
the friends of Selbe Smith, of Lauder-
dale couhty, that he does not. Intend to
pardon him. Smith Is an ex-Confeder-
ate and was sentenced to the peniten
tiary from Lauderdale county for the
killing of his son.

ductor here by the Southern railway
all the trainmen employed by that
company at this point went out on
strike. The strikers Include call boys
and clerks. *•
They refuse to go back to their duty
until the discharged man Is reinstated.
He belongs to the Order ot Railway
Trainmen. More than thirty men are
employed here.
Business Good In Mississippi.

conditions In Mississippi since the first
of January have been unusually good
and the records at the office of the
United States court clerk show that tho
number ot bankruptcy cues has fallen
tf considerably. Since February the
failures have been exceedingly small,
each failure not averaging more than
1600,

at Island Mills, this county, had Ills
right arm caught In the cogs of a 70111
wheel today and was probably fatally.

nald C. Vanderbilt, who waa Miss
Kathleen Nellson, waa placed under the
surgeon's knife today for it serious
operation In the Vanderbilt summer
place, Sandy Point Farm, South Ports
mouth township, not far from Newport,
Dr. Bull and Dr. Flint, of New York,
were hurriedly brought to Newport in
a special car, while Drs. Charles Stew
art and Jacoby, among the most expert
surgeons of Newport, were called In to
aid the New York practitioners In the
performance of tho operation.
