Savannah, Ga., Aug. 22.—Hoke Smith carried Clinch by over 200. Four districts give him 168 over Estill. N other candidates voted for. Richmond county very light vote. Indications that Smith will have large plurality. At 1:30 a.m. Hoke Smith is definitely known to have carried 102 out of 145 counties, insuring' him a delegated vote in the state convention of 272. Clark Howell has carried nine counties, with 18 votes in the convention. Judge Russell has carried eight counties, with 18 votes in the convention. J. H. Estill has carried six counties, with 16 votes in the convention. James M. Smith has carried two counties, with 4 votes in the convention. This leaves 18 counties unreported, with a vote in the convention of 38. The tptal vote in the convention is 366—necessary to a choice 184. Hoke Smith .therefore has 88 more votes than are necessary for his nomination on the first ballot in the convention. Iloke Smith carried Fulton county by a majority of 1,961 over Clark * Howell. He carried every ward In the city except the sixth and eighth. The total vote was: Smith, 6,383. Howell, 3,432. Fire Chief W. R. Joyner was elected mayor over Thomas H. Good win. His majority waa 256. The total vote: * Joyner, 4,057. Goodwin, 3,802. Goodwin served notice Immediately after the return! were poited that he would contest the election. He declined to state upon what grounds.
