SPLENDID MU8IC SUNDAY
AT FIR8T BAPTI8T CHURCH.
Sunday was a day long to be remem
bered In Atlanta, not only by the mem>
bers of the First Baptist church, who
celebrated the eleventh anniversary of
Dr. W. W. Landrum's pastorals, but
by all lovara of good music who were
fortunate enough lo be present at the
morning and evening services at this
plendld new church.
At no period of the history of sacred
music In Atlanta haa more absolutely
delightful and satisfactory programs
been rendered than those presented
Sunday morning and evening by the
choir of the First Baptist church under
the direction of Protestor J. P. O’Don-
netly, organist.
The regular choir, Mrs. Peyton H.
Tnnd (soprano). Miss Marguerite Dun
lap (alto), Mr. Thomas B. Davies
(tenor). Mr. John S. Scott (bees), Mr.
C. T. Worm fcornetlat), and Mr. J. P.
O'Donnelly (organist ana director),
was augmented by the following well
known vocalists: Sopranos, Mra. W.
S. Elkin, Jr.. Mrs. S. D. Sliver, Miss
I-oulae Van Harllnggan; altos. Mrs.
Clarence Bloaser, Mrs. W. T. Parker-
son, Mrs. E\ A. Wynne; tenor*. Mr. F.
L. Tllke. Mr. Marlon Roberto, Mr.
Charles Hoke. Mr. Charles Gallmard;
basses, Mr. Edward H. Barnes, Mr. EM-
ward Werner, Mr. Ernest Waltt, and
Mr. T. L. Jennings.
The morning program was thorough
ly classic, embracing selections and ar
rangements from Wagner, Chopin and
Donlxettl, each number of which,
whether vocal or on organ or cornet,
was faultlessly rendered.
The cornet solos by Mr. Charles
Wiirm and the organ preludes and
posttudea by Professor O'Donnelly
were exquisite contributions to the
beautiful programs.
"Pilgrims Chorus," from Tannhaussr,
and "Just as I Am," arranged from
Chopin, were among the most notable
vocal selections of the morning ser
vice.
Shelley's "E'estlval Gloria In Excel-
ala" and Chadwlck'a “Hark, Hark, My
Soul," gave splendid opportunity at
the evening services for the display of
the unuaunlly line voices of the regu
lar choir, and the vocalists assisting

8CHOOL FOR WIVE8.
Advices from New York state that
within a year, New York may have a
technical high school to prepare girls
to become wives. How to nurse a sick
husband, how to attend to the thous
and one wants of a baby, and how to
keep down. household expenses as low
the trusts will allow, are among the
things the girls will be taught.
Such Is the plan officials of the board
of education now have under consid
eration. Impetus to the movement has
been given by the fact that Cleveland
has announced Its Intention of having
the ilrst school of this kind In the
country.
"The Idea !■ not as new os Cleveland
people evidently believe," said Edward
B. Shallow, acting superintendent, In
the absence of Superintendent Maxwell,
In discussing this matter. "In our own
city the plan or teaching girls how to
do their work .aa wives wa* one ot iho
objects In view In the establishment
by the board of education of two of our
Institutions—the technical high school
for girls and the domestic classes In
the vacation schools.
There the girl Is taught sewing,

board for Its new school. First aid to
the Injured, treatment for heat prostra
tion, caring for the hair, changing the
clothing of an Invalid without remov
ing him from the bed, and other Im
portant lessons are given by trained
nurxee. The chief difference between
the courses given In New York and
those to be given In the Cleveland
school seems to lie, In the fact that
we have no one line of studies given
over for the preparation of girls to be
come wive*. Our courses have a more
general aspect, training a child to look
after her little brothers and sisters or
one who Is already a wife to care for
her children."
In the latter case this city already

to be taught certain kind* of work so
they may aaslat their children at home.
