New York, Sept. 10.—The stock mar ket today opened a trifle higher for most of the active Issues, but without any sensational features. As has been the case of late, the activity was con fined to a few stocka; notably Atchison. The announcement of the promised gold engagement was delayed for some reason or other, and when call money opened at 0 to 10 per cent there was a realizing movement which carried prices fractionally lower, St. Paul and Union Pacific being conspicuously heavy. Altogether the professional traders appeared to have neither con viction nor the desire to acquire any. Later It was announced that 310.000,- 000 had been engaged and more would come, and sthe entire market rallied, particularly the Southern stocks.
