fornia, Is here for Antonio Beaold, who
was arrested last Thursday, charged
with murdering his wife, Julia.
On the morning of July 11,, It la al
leged, Beaold and wife left Lon Angeles,
presumably for Santa Monica, for a
day's outing. When Beaold returned
to his boarding house he said his'wife
had gone on a visit to Mexico and
would probably be absent for several

after his kinsfolk i had died one by
one, Hon. James E. Brown, former
state librarian of Newnan, wrote to
Mayor Smith offering the lad a home,
and this offer will be communicated to

nas. He spoke to two audiences in
Greenville, the union service on Sunday
night being largely attended by the
representative cltlkens of the city. Hon.
L. O. Patterson, officially connected
with the movement for South Caro
lina. presided.- Four pastors In the
city took part In the service, but the
speech of the evening was made by
Mr. Jackson, at the conclusion of which
the packed audience rose and most en
thusiastically Indorsed the movement.
In the audience was the governor-elect
of South Carolina and a number of
Judges and other distinguished gentle
men. who said to Mr, Jackson In person
that they would be glad to aid the
movement all possible. Hon. L. O.
Patterson, a leading lawyer of the city,
has beefiSraked to draw a Juvenile court
and probation bill for the state of
South Carolina.
On Wednesday night last week Mr.
Jackson spoke In the Central Methodist
church In Spartanburg. The - next
morning, by Invitation, he spoke to the
faculty and several hundred students
at Wofford College.

going through the carloads of negroes
who were brought to the Tower from
Brownsville and other places and are
releasing those whom they can not
positively convict of participating In
the disorders or who can not be held on
a vagrancy charge.
L. J. Price, the negro postmoater at
Brownsville, has been staying at the
Jail of his own volition. Ho was being
held on the charge of dealing out arms
and ammunition to the negroes of that
suburb, but .hortly.after his arrest the
county police searched his premises and
found nothing which would warrant
this charge being formally registered
against him. He preferred the Jail aa
a safer place than home, however.

ing of the Habersham County Fair
Monday morning was a booming suc
cess. The opening address was deliv
ered by Colonel I. C. Wade. In the
morning an elocution contest was made
between the representatives of the dif
ferent towns of the county. Miss Eva
Burns, of Cornelia, Oa., was the suc
cessful contestant, and carried off the
medal.

On Tuesday morning a very Interest
