THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN.
APPLICATIONS FOR SALOON LICENSES.
The Georgian has accepted these advertisements and prints them because the City Council,
under ordinance, directs that they appear in all daily papers, and we believe it best that all
should know who the applicants for license are and where they propose to conduct saloons.
We can not consistently accept pay for them, and they are printed gratis. We feel that this
explanation is due the public. >

PLANS TO INVADE CUBA
APE STILL BEING RUSHED
Washington, 8*pt. 27.—There la a de
cidedly more optimistic tone about th*
war department a* a result of the news
from Havana that the warring factions
In Cuba have agreed to meet through
representative* and to submit any
opinion on which they cannot agree t<
the American commissioners for de
termination. Confidence In the diplo
macy and tact of Secretary Taft and
In his ability to bring order out of the
present chaos le expressed and among
th* higher officials the hope Is enter
tained that It may not be necessary to
aend any United States troops to
Cuba.
Troops Getting Ready.
Despite this Tssllng, however, there
has been no relaxation of the effort*
to get everything In a state of pre
paredness to meet an emergency call.
Troop* are ready to move whenever
the word come* from Oyster Ray that
the necessity has arisen. It Is realised
that th* eltuatlon In Havana la In a

Immediate actlop.
Supplies of all kinds, horses, mules,
and wagon*, hospital requirements and
everything else to fully equip an army,
are being collected at convenient point*
for Immediate shipment aa soon as the
word IS given. It Is Intended that the
Bret shipment of troops shall consist
of 5,000 men and that they shall em
bark at Norfolk. Their horses, mules
and Impedimenta will be sent from
Tampa.

In the meantime the navy la rushing
marines to Cuba. By Saturday the
1,000 marines Included In the fourtji

which are to be known as the second
regiment, will be afloat and on their
way to Havana. It le expected that
the Prairie with the detachments of
marine* from Boston, Newport and
Portemuuth will sail on Friday
and that the Brooklyn will get away
from League Island with the marine*
from Washington, Annapolis., Md„
