THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN.
APPLICATIONS FOR SALOON LICENSES.
The Georgian has accepted these advertisements and prints them because the City Council,
under ordinance, directs that they appear in all daily papers, and we believe it best that all
should know who the applicants for license are and where they propose to conduct saloons.
We can not consistently accept pay for them, and they are printed gratis. We feel that this
explanation is due the public.

Recorder Commends Jim

In the trial Friday morning In police

race In the face of threats against his

When Wood* awoke Friday morning
at hit home In Darktown he found un
der his door a card bearing this omi

"Jim Woods: If you go to court tble

There was no signature to the card.
Notwithstanding the threat, Woods ap

crowd of Darktown negroes and testi

of the disorder himself, but had fur

ot negroes alleged tn have taken part.
The names had been given to Woods
by another negro, who said he was
afraid to furnish them to the police,
fearing the wrath of the negroes.
"I told him.” said Woods, "to give me
the names und I would turn them over
to the police, that I wanted to help
preserve order, and that I was not
afraid of the whole gang."
Other Negro Scared.
The other negro, who conducts a bar
ber shop In Darktown, was evidently
scared and In court denied he gave the
names to Woods. He admitted that
threats were made against him Mon
day afternoon when he tried to atop
some disorder.
All of the witnesees summoned by
the police were strikingly Ignorant as
to the Identity of the negroes partici
pating in the rioting, and Policeman
Pate, who, with Policemen Mashburn
and Hollingsworth, prosecuted the case,
declared the witnesses had been threat
