"The Heir to the Hoorah.”
The attraction announced for Thurs
day night at the Grand ig “The Heir to
the Hoorah," with Guy; Bates Post an'd
a splendid company, the same company
that created such favorable comment
last season when this attraction played
the Grand.
“The Heir to the Hoorah'* will be re
membered as an American comedy, re
plete with good situations, witty say
ings and depicting characters of the
far West that are Intensely Interesting
to local theater-goers. The story Is
clean, forceful and delightfully original
and with such a coat as will be seen
here there la reason to anticipate one
of the real. treats of the season, and
one that should not be missed.
Tho company is in the main the
same which made such a pleasing im
pression here last season. It is headed
by Guy Bates Post, who has gained
prominence in the profession through
his fine portrayal of the Western hero
in this play.
Crowds at the Bijou.
The Bijou la starting In to make Its
record for attendance for the new sea
son. When “Not Yet But Soon*' is
through there will be a set of figures
to overcome that will make the best
show of the season hustle fast and
forty to meet.
“Not Yet But Soon" Is not the work
of a great Ade, Cohan, Hoyt or the like.
As a matter of fact It Is a sort of
"Topsy," for It Just happened, but it Is
a mighty good happening. There is
corpedy in every line and every step
In the piece, and there Is music that
gets a good hold and then swings on
and Is welcome. The songs have some
thing to them, and there Is llfo and
action that is all pleasing and all orig
inal.
There will be matinee and night per
formances in accordance with the es
tablished Bijou schedule the rest of the
week.
“Playing the Game.”
The dramatic Instinct seems to have
been very pronounced in the Jefferson
family as exemplified by the late Jo
seph Jefferson, and also by his sons,
Joseph and William W., who have
been seen for the last five seasons in
Bheridan's classic comedy, "The Ri
vals." To the credit of the younger
Jeffersons it has been proven that they
are animated by the same spirit that
had actuated t^eir late father through
out his career, and that they are now
pronounced worthy successors to the
heritage he has left them. For the
past season the Jeffersons have de
parted from the old English comedy
and announce a new, up-to-date com
edy for their appearance here at the
Grand on Friday and Saturday nights
and matinee Saturday, entitled "Play
ing the Game." This is said to be a
much more pretentious production than
any heretofore attempted by the Jef
ferson family, using a full 60-foot bag
gage car for the transportation of the
scenery and effects that are necessary
to the faithful - presentation of the
comedy. The production In Its entire
ty has been spoken of as a pronounced
success; In fact, one of the biggest
successes of the dramatic season, and
both stars and company have received
the highest praise for excellent work.
The two parts were especially written
for the two Jeffersons, and Cleveland
Moffett and Hartley Davis are con
gratulating themselves with having
tailored" the two stars so aptly.
