ON PHYSICAL TEST
The police commission met In called

report on the physical examination of
applicants for jobs on the police force.
The report showed that sixteen men
passed the examination, while fifteen
failed. Two were ordered held up for
further examination.
The sixteen successful applicants

examination, which will be held at the
police station Monday afternoon at 2
o'clock.

Holt Nash. Winners of these medals

stores to close on Sunday. It has

Governor Terrell and Professor D. J,
Crosby will leave Saturday morning at
8 o'clock over the Southern for Rome,
where,a meeting of the trustees of the
Seventh congressional district) Is to bo

termine the location of the agricultural
college for that district.
Professor Smith, the soil expert from
the United States department of
agriculture, has made an examination
of the lands In the two localities com
peting for the school—one In Cobb and
the other In Bartow county, and will
report at the Rome meeting. It is un
derstood that Rome people have start
ed a movement within the last few
days to tpr to secure the school, but
It Is believed that .they will be too late.
The governor and Professors Crosby
and Smith will return to Atlanta Sat
urday evening.

Fred Cain, the white youth arrested
by Policemen Pearson and Hood Thurs
day morning shortly after 2 o’clock. In
East Pine street, and who was ordered
held as a suspicious character, was Fri
day morning bound over to the state
courts by the recorder under bond of
$500 on the charge of vagrancy.
In the meantime, the police will en
deavor to learn something concerning
the prisoner.
When first arrested, Cain Informed
the police his home was in Chattanoo
ga, but they have since learned his
home is in Knoxville. A sister of tho
youth, who resides In Atlanta, was In
court and made a statement In his
behalf.
The mysterious drawing and diagram
of a house, found in a memorandum
book In Cnin’s pocket, has strangely
vanished and can not be found. Tho
book was not taken away from the
prisoner, and It Is believed ho destroyed
the drawing. Ho asserts he gave It to
some ono about the station.
A partially burned candle, found In
his pocket, was tendered In evidence.
The recorder said tho circumstances
were decidedly suspicious.

died Wednesday night at 10 o’rloqtf at
the residence of Mrs. R. T. Fouche, 10$

by two daughters und one son. They
nre Mrs. \V. H. Mitchell, of Nashville,
Tenn., Mrs, R. T, Fouche, of tills city,

A. C. Jones, owner of several race
horses here for the fair next week, was
fined $5.75 Friday morning by the re
corder for throwing an apple core Into
Wall street Thursday from his room in
the Southern hotel, at* Pryor and Wall
streets, and also for refusing to let
two police officers Into his room.
Policemen Harper and Taylor testi
fied they did not intend to enter a case
against Jones for throwing the core
Into the street, but merely went to
his room to caution him. They said he
declined to open the door so they could
talk with him, telling them they had no
right there without a warrant.
Jones said he meant no harm, but
merely wanted the officers to wait un
til his wife came In, fearing they would
take him to tho police station and leave
his apartment unfastened.
SLEUTHS ARREST
PREACHER AND GIRL
Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 4.—Rev. George
Lister Reynolds, aged 42, pastor of the
church at Fatlte, a suburb of Elmyera,
and Miss Clara Esther Ware, aged 23
years, former organist of hla church,
were arrested hero by local detectives.
The minister will bo formally charged
with bigamy.
Tho minister and the woman blame
his wife, who is eight year# older than
he. The minister says she made life a
burden for him.

reported much improved at noon to
day.
Tho gallery of the Bijou theater was
the scene of a lively disturbance
Thursday afternoon during the mail,
nee performance of “Not Yet , But
Soon," that resulted in the arrest of
trio of negro men, and almost came
near terminating seriously.
The negroes were C. H. Jordan and
Ernest Jenkins, connected with a ne
gro skating rink In Central avenue, nnd
Jesse Jones. Tho three men are said
to have been drinking and Policeman
Keriln found it necessary to place them
under nrrest. „
Jenkins Is said to have refused to
submit and the officer had to jerk him
■out of his scat. Special Officer Botch
er, of the theater, went to the assist
ance of Keriln and took hold of Jor
dan. The latter resisted and a spirit
ed scuffle ensued, Jenkins, it is said,
seising Belcher and trying to pull him
loose from Jordan. Japes offered no
resistance.
The negroes were finally gotten out
of the theater and sent to the police
station. On arraignment before the re
corder Friday morning, Jordan and
Jenkins were each fined 315.75 and
Jones $1.75. The fines were paid.
