Hector la a hand tome big golden

him an eacute for not joining a ehop,
king trip one bot day. Thta tot the

Inclined to chatter than to attend to

very kind In Hector’* mlatrea* to car*
for her dog’* comfort on a hot day. A*
long a* Hector'* mlatrea* had nothing
ela* to do. we decided that washing
Hector wa* much better than sitting In
a rocking chair upon the front porch
and making unkind remarks regarding
other people.
The world It Improving In regard to
the treatment of animals, and this Im
provement Is having Its result* In the
tin* specimens of animals shown now
adays. Nearly every large city In th*
country provide* drinking fountains fop
dogs and horses as a necessity. In
evoyy public park there- Is a large
trough full of cool, fresh water for
faithful Dobbin, and a smaller on*
labeled “For dogs." And they are
continually In service, and tba lives
of many horses and dog* have been
saved during the hot month* by these
fountain*. I had occasion to make a
vfslt of inspection to a rich man's su
blet end was amaxed at the comfort
provtdfd for the horses. All were thor-
ougbbrede and all were the handsom
est specimens I had ever seen. In the
rich man’s hall waa a case filled with
blue ribbons end medals, which hod
been won at horse shows throughout
th* country by his line horses, and af
ter 1 had seen the way they were cared
for I was not surprised. Each hone
had a stall to hltnself, of coune; but
they were not the untidy, lll-amelltng
stall one usually sees. The walls were
Hied and th* floors hod sewer connec
tions. Thero was a white enamelled
baths and electric fane for the horses,
and the windows Were screened to keep
out the flies and tnosqultoea. These
drinking trough for each horse. Among
ocher conveniences there were shower
precautions, I found out, were not un
common tn the stables of wealthy peo
ple.
The rich man’s daughter owned a
number of very handsome and valua
ble dogs, and these were as well taken
car* of as the horse*. Been dog had a
separate kennel, end there waa a man
who washed and groomed the animals
every day.
This show* that the world Is grow
ing better In the wav the dumb ani
mals are treated. W
