Oct. 16.—One man was killed nnd several other persons were seriously Injured early today when n passenger train on the C. and E. 1. struck a defective rail and left the track near Crete, 111., 10 miles south of Chicago. The train consisted of on engine and eight coaches and was moving at O' 0 rate of 40 mllea an hour when the ac cident occurred.
