The bear Intluences were the more
situation in England, the Bank
of England having increased its rate
to 6 per cent yesterday, while consols
»-,re of 31-6d to 86 Tor money. To
this was added much more favorable
.pettier reports from the cotton belt.
The spot market was quiet, with
prices reduced 3 points, making mid
sting 6.33, sales 6,00 bales.
The market for futures In New York
was apparently eager to follow the de
cline in Liverpool, first prices from
that center showing declines of from
11 to 27 points, the latter for October.
The market acted heavy from the
mart, and bulls who bought on the
,lorm reports yesterday were among
the sellers at the opening. It was
mated that the Liverpool market was
affected largely by selling from Now
Orleans and prospects of bearish re
ports from Buston: also. Bank of Eng
land advnnce In rate. The market lacks
strength and seem* to be lot of stop
orders coming out.
The decline continued throughout the
session and predictions are numerouf
that the bottom has not yet been
touched; that 1s, for cotton for future
delivery for speculative purposes.
The movement of actual cotton has
begun In earnest, which, unless check
ed, will force spot prices lower, though
at present they follow the slump In fu
tures somewhat reluctantly.
Late Liverpool cables report that
there has been violent fluctuations
there, but recovered considerably at
the close with a better feeling in evi
dence.
