Sun Francisco, Nov. 3.—The state <ie-
partment has decided to aid the Jap
anese of the city In a fight to secure
admission of their children to the pub
lic schools in 6m Francisco. In pur
suance of this policy Attorney General
Moody instructed District Attorney H.
I. Devlin to lend his aid to Attorneys
R. M. Ficert and Masujl Allydkawo,
representing the Japanese community,
In injunction proceedings that have
been brought in the circuit court to
comiwl the hoard of education to allow
the subjects of the mikado to attend
the schools of the city.
The school department of the city
refuses to make any concessions to the
Japanese, and President Altman, of the
school board, has plainly informed Sec
retary Metcalf that he* would obey the
state law to the letter. This law re
quires separate schools.

San Francisco, Cal., Nov. 3.—Signifi
cant action was taken by the Japanese
of thta city Friday afternoon when they
dismissed the suit begun sometime ago
to force the authorities to admit Japan-
eso children to all public schools of
San Francisco.
It was stated by attorneys that from
no\v on the Japanese nil! make no ef
fort to oppose exclusion through court
proceedings, but they will stand firmly
on their treaty rights and contend that
the Washington government must put
children back In schools from which
they have been barred by the board of
education.

Anyway, in a suit filed In the city
court Saturday Violet Wright, acting
as next friend to her son, Georgo
Wright, Hueti the Georgia Hallway and
Electric Company for Just $150 for the
personal Injuries mentioned.
Bhe claims that on October 21 George
was riding along Capitol avenue on a
bicycle when, through no fault ot his,
he was knocked over and besides the
cracked cranium and fractured leg, was
otherwise badly bruised up.
In another suit against the street car
company Moses Green, a butler .and
house servant, neks judgment* for
$2,000 because he says h* was assault
ed without cause by a Peachtree car
conductor. In addition to being struck
with something hard In the bunds of
the conductor, his dignity utso suffered.
It was learned at the police stutlon
Saturday morning that the police have
unearthed a clew that may soon bring
developments (n the case of the little
baby girl, deserted by her parents and
found Thursday night in the weeds In
vacant lot at DeKalb avenue and
Delta street, Inman Park.
Policeman Cooglftr, who has been de
tailed on the case, Is working on the
clew (u an effort to bring to Justice
the persons who so cruelly abandoned
the child. The nature of the clew lias
not been divulged, but It is regarded ns
strong and one which may soon dissi
pate the mystery of the unknown
child.
Chief Jennings stated Saturday that
If an urrest is made, warrants charging
both cruelty and abandonment will be
sworn out.
Further developments in the case will
bo watched with great Interest. The
baby, which Is about one month old, la
still In the Home for the Friendless.
