It Is beginning to look very much ns
though the decline Is being overdone and
that it steady nnd unchecked loss In values
has discounted a government estimate to
morrow of glnnlngs lu excess of average ex
pectations. It must be remembered that
only twelve working days Intervened since
the previous glnnera 1 report, and If the pop
ular estimates of lietweeu 6,800,000 and
6,900,003 Is verified tomorrow It means that
approximately 400,000 bale* have been
ginned over nnd above the corresponding
period last year. It also means that 36,000
tulles a day have been ginned during the
Last twelve days nnd above the dally aver
age glnnlngs for the same period lu 19u5.
or, In other words, n total dally ginning* of
about 160,000 bales, equaling the highest
itly set forth nnd slowly
gaining In favor or 7.150,000 bales. Wltu
these figures In mind. It would appear tbut
the moru conservative policy to pursue
would be to avoid following too closely s
further loss In values, for It Is evident that
a disappointing report tomorrow will cause
considerable covering and n continent
price movement which, even though tem
porary, might prove sufficient to eradicate

was an annual decrease of 1,006,000 bushels
for the week. The record of arrivals -at
primary markets has since shown no Im
provement . In this Jcgard. Total primary
arrivals last week,, were 2,000,000 bushels
less than those of n year ago.;
‘itroumhaJl's estimate • that the require

for ihe year wilt aggregate 545|000.000 hustf-

500.0ft) bushels per week. For the first sev
enteen weeks of the crop year tho nvcrain*
world's shipments, have been about 800,000
bushels weekly below Jhe above average,
although for the last six weeks It has been
about 1,400,000 bushels above It.
"With a stubborn undertone nnd a dis
tinct holding tendency shown In the wheat
trade of thla country, which haa the largest
available wheat surplus on earth, there
would seem to be no occasion for depres
sion elsewhere. Other countries, however,
are handicapped by belua compelled to offer
Interior grain and It Is with this lower
quality that the American grower and mer
chandiser Is expected to compete In the
matter of prices.
"Business current In the corn trade laat
week was a distinct disappointment to
those who thought they had previously
discerned evidences of Increasing nctlvlt;
The East Is evidently now dlj
corn flint reached It following
of the Heptember deal and Is noi uuying

fered to a considerable extent with sales.
The speculative branch of the trade haa
not gnlued any on Hie cash department.
Receiving nnd general cash grain handling
concerns assert- that their purchases to date
from the country have been far below those
of a year ago. Home of the denlera, how

In farmers' sales, although country dealers
are not disposed to offer much aa yot. This
condition keeps the usual W’elgbt of hedg
