NO PRISONERS FOR COURT;
ELECTION DA Y BREAKS ALL
RECORDS OF POLICE DEPT.
There was no session of police court
Wednesday afternoon, and thereby
hang* the story of the most remarka
ble record In the history of that cele
brated tribunal.
At the close of the morning session,
during which only eight or ten coses
were disposed of. Recorder Broyles In
structed Clerk Preston to adjourn the
court until 8:30 o'clock Thursday
morning, because of the ubsence of any
business for the afternoon session.
Not a case appeared on the docket
for trial In the afternoon, a condition
never before known since the estab
lishment of police court.
This remarkable sltuAtion follows
election day, on which alt saloons in
the city were tightly closed. Recorder
Broyles declares the closing of the sa
loons Is respqnslbte for putting the aft
ernoon session of court out of busi
ness.
'•The fact- that we have bean com
pelled to adjourn court until Thurs
day morning for lack of business Is
certainly a splendid temperance lec
ture,” remarked the recorder.
