San Juan, P. R., Nov. 22.—Presi
dent Roosevelt was accorded an ova
tion surpassing anything ever seen In
Porto Rico at the reception today In
his honor at the gubernatorial man
sion. Both In point of numbers of the
guests and the enthusiasm manifested
the reception was a record-breaker.
Many persons were unable to reach
the president to shake hls hand.
An incident was the meeting of Pres.
Ident Roosevelt and E. G. Morton, who
fought by hls side at Santiago de Cuba,
and was one of the first five to ascend
the hill.
President Roosevelt's return to the
-United States will be delayed some
what. The roughness of the sea out
side San Juan makes It Impossible for
him to board the Loulsana there, and
he will return to Ponce to embark.
Making the 80-mile trip over the
famous military road from Ponce t<
San Juan in six hours and three min
utes. Including stops, President Roose
velt crossed the Island of Porto Rico
In an automobile yesterday and re
celved a continuous ovation.
