on last Monday evening Old Central j
No. ‘jf> held a very Interesting meet
ing. Several members, who had been
absent f«»r some time, were In attend
ance, anil much enthusiasm was shown
In the meeting.
An Invitation from Dv. A. K. Holder-
by, of Moore Memorial church, to at
tend special services for Central Lodge
Sunday was received and accepted. Tho
lodge will meet in the hall at ^0:30 In
the morning and with the regalia of
the order attend this service in a body.
The entertainment committee report
ed much progress for the reception and
entertaining of the members and their
friends and sweethearts on December
1U at 8 o'clock.
The new club Is about completed and
good work for the closing of the term
Is In sight.
The relief committee reported all the
sick as convalescing. Only four mem
bers are now in the care of this com
mittee—Messrs. C. A. Barrett, J. M.
Crouch, E. Y. Crockett and W. H. Hud
son.
The latch string Is on the outside the
door of Central and all visiting Odd
Fellows and others are cordially Invited
to attend any Monday evening tho
mother of Odd Fellowship In Atlanta.

ENTERTAINED HERE
A mosulmerestIng meeting of the
Istard of district deputies of the several
Masonic districts of Georgia was held
at the Musonlc Temple on Tuesday and
Wednesday of this week.
The board Is a peculiarly strong one
this year. It Is composed of the fol
lowing: First district, F. H. Kaffold,
chairman, Swalnsboro: second district,
S. W. Davis. Thotnasvlllc; third dis
trict, L. J. Blalock, Amerlcus; fourth
district, J. D. Hamrick, Carrollton; fifth
district, John E. McClelland, Stone
Mountain; sixth district, Thomas J.
Brown. McDonough; seventh district,
Paul F. Akin, Cartersvllie; eighth dis
trict, J. K. Stephens, Hartwell; ninth
district. Jttbez Galt, Canton; tenth dls-
trlto, J. E. White, Thomson; eleventh
district, N. II. Ballard, Brunswick.
All the 'members Were present, except
line. The board discussed the recentj
work In all Its phases and agreed ui»otr
a uniform work to be promulgated In
Georgia.
These district deputies have not only
done much to unify the work, but, by
their seal and enthusiasm, huva added
much to the building up of a line sen
timent.
The deputies while In Atlunta were
entertained at a delightful dinner by
Hon. John K. McClelland, ut Durand's.
The grand master looked In upon
them and spent a few most agreeable
moments with them. The deputy grund
master wus also present during some
hours of their deliberations und was
most courteously welcomed.
Several sessions of the board will be
held before the next grand lodge meet
ing, at which time the deputies will ex
emplify the work In the various de
grees, especially the Third, or M. M.
Ho Intelligent and enthusiastic a body
Is sure to accomplish much good for
Masonry andexempllfy the work In a
masterly way.
’FRISCO QUAKE SUFFERERS
TO RETURN UNUSED FUNDS

The attention of our whole country
seetns presently directed to Han Fran
cisco relative to the disbursement of
funds sent there after the earthquake
and iW— the millions which are said
j to have arrived at the destination and
as yet are unaccounted for.
Charges have been made t,hat a large
portion of this amount has been traced
to officials high in authority and that
graft Is suggested as an explanation.

charge of these funds for dlstribu

$625 and their pro rata will be forward -

made during the meeting.
The speech of Past Councillor O. H.
Starnes was enjoyed by all who heard
It. The advice given by Mr. Starnes
was good, and the members would do
well to take It.

The charter members, who are prom

bly surprised at the magnitude of the
Institution ceremonies and the beau
tiful rltulalstlc work of the Maccabees.

ncers, who liuvc had much experience
In other orders, and they arc so well
pleased with the Maccabees that they
huve already taken Active steps to Ini
crease their membership and to secure
degree paraphernalia.

Piedmont Lodge, No. 190, I. O. O. F..

of members present.
The lodge has another large class al
most ready to he Initiated: only it few
more applications are needed to com
plete the necessary formalities, and the
lodge will then Issue the notices.
This lodge was never on a better foot
ing than «t the present time—taking In
new members at every meeting, and
very few of her ftiembers on the sick
list. •
Home of the members at the last
meeting contemplate giving a foot
warming during the holidays. If the
move Is put Into operation, no doubt
the lodge will have a rousing big time.
Several good talks were mude dur
ing the evening, and all were made to
feel that It was good for them to be
there.

The ceremonies were interesting and
impressive, and were witnessed by a
large crowd of students and other spec
tators.
Dr. W. W. Landrum opened the ex
ercises with prayer, and addresses
were delivered by Uhancellor Barrow
and Governor 4 Terre1l. Both uddresses ■
were greatly enjoyed. -
The stone bears the Inscription, ‘Taix 1
et Veritas," (light and truth), which 1
phrase was chosen by Miss Hammond, |
the librarian. A number of interesting
articles were deposited In the stone.

.Montgomery, Aim, Nov. 24.—
The Montgomery dam of beavers
put a class of 117 Into the local dam
Tuesday night and celebrated the oc
casion by giving a big banquet and
smoker.
The Montgomery dam has built a
handsome homo on Madison avenue
und has opened up one of the hand
somest club rooms In the Bouth. The
rooms are to have hot nnd cold water
bath, buffet, reading room, pool and
billiard and game rooms, und Is
equipped with all the latest nnd up-
to-date facilities of a home and club
room.
The Initiation of 117 members Into
the local dam Is the largest class ever
put in a secret order in Alabama, and
the Initiation of five of this number
was the richest thing ever witnessed
In Montgomery; In fact. It was said
by all that It was "the money’s worth."
Too much credit cannot be given E.
W. Tripp, deputy supreme organizer
of the order, for he has labored untir
ingly In the Interest of the Montgom
ery dam nnd has made many friends
during his stay In the city. His many
friends wish for him many happy re
turns in the future.
The contest Is on In earnest be
tween Montgomery and Atlanta for
the next supreme president. It Is said
to be an even break between Dr. 8.
H. Haul, of Montgomery, and Hon.
Eb T. Williams, of Atlanta. The con
vention will be held In Birmingham the
first of February, 1907. .

Uniform Lodge No. 123, K. of P.,
held an Interesting convention at their
Castle Hall, In the Kaiser building, last

was present, among them being repre

"permeate the atmosphere,*’ and
Pythian friendship was exemplified
In a way which warmed the heart* of
those present. Everyone went home
glad they had been there.
The rank of esquire was conferred In
most Impressive style and the candi
dates were thoroughly Impressed with
the lesson of charity.
An especial effort is being made by
this lodge to close the year with more
than four hundred members. This will
give It five representatives In the grand
lodge, and as It has only to gain at* a
little greater rate than for the past
several months, it is confidently ex
pected It will succeed.

RETURNS TO ATLANTA
FROM ALABAMA TRIP
E. \\\ Tripp, deputy supreme organ
izer of the Beavers, has returned to the
city and will remain here a few days
before going to New York, where he
goes in the interest of the order.
Mr. Tripp has Just completed a class
of 123 members for the Montgomery
dam of Beavers and Installed the pop
ular order Into a handsome set of club
rooms, with all modem conveniences.
This class bring* the Montgomery
dam up lo the membership of the Bir
mingham dam. which has something
like 50i) member* nt the present time.
Each dam I* growing very rapidly.
