tion of the Seaboard Air Line trestle
over Broad river, this county, and prob
ably a serious wreck was narrowly
averted Tuesday afternoon when the
trestle was discovered to be on Are by I
M. B. Summer, of the^Unlun and Glenn I
Springs Yalbvay and Fire Chief Smith,
of Union.
These gentlemen had gone for a run !

at Ohatchle of Pete Pothit. a white
man, by tho accidental discharge ?>f a
gun In tha hands of Poq Private, a boon
companion of Dothlt. and well known
throughout the county. The young men
were In a room with several others last
night when Prlvett took a loaded pistol
from a drawer for the purpose of ex
hibiting the weapon, yhieh hud recent
ly conie Into his possession. The pistol
was suddenly discharged, the bullet en
tering the heart of Dothlt, causing In
stant death.

to Birmingham, doing away with the

late. No. 44 will be the northbound
train, and will leave Birmingham nt
G:40 a. m. and Atlanta nt 11:40 a. in.
It hns also been reported that In
stead of thirteen divisions the Houth-
cm system!will be divided Into twenty-
seven divisions. Each division will have
a superintendent and a general shift
is expected to happen next year. The
superintendent will be held responsible
for the moveihent of trains In their di

new arrangement, will greatly facilitate

consideration with which colored sol

Anniston, Ala., Nov. 29.—Gone to un
known parts Is one William Haley,
wanted by tho sheriff, charged with
shooting Into Jim Cobb’s house last
Saturday night and wounding a young
daughter of Cobh's. A warrant was
promptly sworn out by Cobb for Ha
ley’s arrest and placed In the hands of
the sheriff for execution, but that of
ficer has been unable to locate his man,
and It is believed that he Is on Ills way
to Texas. Cobb lives on the Uonahoo
place, near Leatherwood, where tile
crime was committee.
