AUAEfi To tho Public- The undersigned, Conductor* of the Western A Atlantic Railroad; feel it to he a solemn duty to the people of Georgia whose servants they are,’and In justice to [heir own outraged characters, to vindicate thcmsclvc* from a disgraceful charge which has been made against them by B. H. Hill, — now a candidate for the office of Gover nor in this .State. We had heard from rumor lor several weeks back that this individual had accused the conductors of this Hoad of the heinous corruption of passing Democratic favorites over the line—if they had “a cross mark upon their hats." But his party friends having denied that sueh a charge was ever made, we were content to leave the matter where it was. But since that time—the evidence that such a charge has been made by U. H. Hill—has daily increased. The following card published in the Constitu tionalist confirms it: •‘The Cross oa Their Mats.” We have seen it referred t* in papers of tho State, that the Hon. B. H. Hill, in some of his public speeches, had staled that all personu who expressed a willing ness to vote for the Hurt. Jose.ph K. .Blown, the Democratic candidate for Governor, were permitted to ride on the State railroad free of charge; and that all who had “a croas mark on their hats” were recognized as good Demoerats, and were passed free of charge over tho whole length, or any portion of the State Road. We were prepared to hear extravagant reports, of all kind* from the opposition party, but we did not expect to hear any thing so contemptible and uttoglt unfounded, as *ueh statement* from Mr. B. H.
