As a family medicine, it has already acquired
a high reputation in the west, and ought to oc

medicine cheat.
The following original letter was handed to us
for publication*, a remedy which can elicit such
encomiums, must be a good one:
CUlviston, Texas, April SO, 1856.
Da. O. O. Woodman, New Orleans;
My Dear Sir:—In justice to you and a duty
I owe to a suffering, and I may say, a world of
coughing people, 1 st'te what your invaluable
Cough Remedy—your CHERRY EXPEC*
TO RANT—ha* done for me, when all other
remedies have failed to give any relief. In the
fall of 1817, living in St. Louis, where 1 havo
resided most of tho time for the last sixteen
years, 1 took a severe cold which settled on my
lungs, and was conftnodto iny led, and dosed
and b/istered by doctors for several weeks, but
finally got on my legs again, but u<»t cured of
nty hard coughing, and rattling *rd tickling in
my throat, which continuep incessantly for
more than six month*, always the worst in the
winter. My friends insisted I h d ejughed
enough to kill a dozen common men, and that
I must bo in tho lost stage of consumption. I
made up my mind that t must cough my life
away. I left St Louis iu December last, to
travel and spend the winter in the South.—
When l called at your store in Vicksburg, you
will recollect, I was coughing so hard 1 could
uot make my business known. You said you
would cure my cough. As you gave me a but
tle of your CHERRY EXPECTORANT,I
thought 1 would uot slight you and your medi*
cine su much as not to try it: and ir. thankful-
uesa shall I ever remember tho day I did so. In
but a fow days.it began to allay and diminish
my cough and tickling iu my throat, and be*
fore 1 had used more than three fourths of the
contents of that bo'.tlc I was entirely cured, ami
for weeks I did not even raise a cough, thougl
exposed t! ly and night, in oil weathers, in tra
veling. However, in March, while traveling in
North Carolina, I took a severe cold, end my
coughing commenced again, and ulso the tick
ling iu my throat, at intervals: and before m>
arriving in New Orleans, or the lib, :u»t, cn
some night, my coughing would commence
and continue fur uu hour or two. I soon pro
cured another bottle from you x'.J .a less than
two days I wa* entirely relievud again. 1 am
now determined to always k ep a bottle on
hmd and in ihe commencing of a cough, a ve
ry few small dose* wiii relieve it ent’rebr^ 1
sin now fully t-atisded it is the BX8T CU£Wiii

CATHARTIC PILLS
O PERATE by their powerful influence on the
internal viscera to purify the blood and atinn
late it into healthy action. They remove t. e
obatructions of tho stomach, b«»w« U, liver, and nt’. er
organa of the body, and, by restoring thoir irregmar
action to health, correct, wherever they exist, smh
derangements as are the iir.st causes of uirenae.
An extHlfilvc trial of their \irturs, by J'rofcssors,
Physicians, and Patient-., has shown cures of dan-
gcroua disease* almost beyotul belief, were they tsot
substantiated by person* of such exalted position
and character as to forbhl tbe aiumieiun of untruth.
Tlielr certifl ate® sr* puhlislied in my American
Ahnann', *,hfch the Agents below named are
pleastd to furnish free to all inquiring.
Annexed we give Directions for their use in the
complaints which they have been found to cure.
Fob CoiTtTRNBsa.—Take ouo or two Pills, or
such quantity as to gently move the bowels. Co»-
tiveness Is frequently the aggravating cause uf
Piles, and the cure of uno complaint is the cure
of both.SNo person ca» feel well while under a
costivo habit of body. Hence it should be, as it
can be, promptly relieved.
For DYBrrrsiA, which is sometimes the cause
of Costiccnesi, and always uncomfortable, take mild
doses — from ono to four — to stimulate the stomach
and lirer into healthy action. They will do it, and
the heartburn, bodyburn, and loulbum of dyrpep.-ia
will rapidly disappear When it has gone, don't
forget what cured you.
For a Foul S roviAUrf, or Morbid Inaction of the
BoiciD, which produces general depression of the
spirits and bad n*alth, take from four to eight Pills
at first, and smaller doses afterwards, until activity
and strength is restored to tho system.
For Nervousness, Sick IIp.adachk, Nausea,.
Pain in the Stomach, Back, or Side, tnk* from four
to eight pills on going to bed. If they do not one-r
ate sufficiently, take more tho next day until they
do. These complaints will he swept out from the
system.^ Don't wear these and their kindred dis
orders because your stomach is foul.
For Scropula, Erysipelas, and all Diseases
of the Skin, tako the Pills freely and frequently, to
keep tho bowels open. The < ructions will gc"*»-
ally soon begin to diminish and disappear. V....,
dreadful ulcers and sores have been n#aled up by
the purging and purifying effect of these Pills, and
some disgusting diseases which seemed to saturate
the whole system have completely yit-ldec to their
influence, leaving the sufferer in perfert health.
Patients! your duty to society forbids that you
should parade yourself aroum* the world covered
with pimples; blotches, ulcers, sots, and all or any
of the unclean diseases of the skin, because your
system wants cleansing.
’ To PuuiPt the Blood, they are the best medi
cine over discovered. They should be taken freeh
and frequently, and the impurities which sow tho
seeds or Incurable diseases will be swept out of the
system like chaff before the wind. By this property
they do as much good in preventing sickness as ay
the remarkable cures which they arc making every
where.
Liven Complaint, Jaundice, ami all Bilious
Affections arise from some derangement —either
torpidity, congestion, or obstructions of the Liver.
Torpidity and congestion vitiate the bile and render
it unfit for digestiou. This i» disastrous to the
health, and the constitution is frequently under
mined by no other cause. Indigestion Ktho iymp-
tom.•Obstruction of the duct which empties tho
bile into the stems-h causes the bile to overflow
into the blood. This produces Jaundice, with a
long and dangerous train of evils. Costivcncss, or
alternately costivenesa, and dianhtra, prevails.
Feverish symptoms, languor, low spirits, weariness,
restlessness, and melancholy, with sometimes in
ability to aleep, and sometimes great drowsiness;
sometimes thvTe f, severe pain in tho side; the skin
and the white of t> ? eyes become a greenish yellow;
the stomach acH; the bowels sore to the touch;
the whole system irritiblc, with a tendency to fever,
which may turn to bilious fever, bilious colic, bilious
diarrhcea,'dysentery, Ac. A medium dose of three
or four Pills taken at flight, followed by two or three
In the morning, and repeated a few days, will remove
the cause of all these troubles. It L wicked to suffer
such pains when you ran our* them for cents.
Rheumatism, Go; r, una u.. Inflammatory Fe
vers arc rapidly cured by the purifving effects of
theso PiHiTipon the blood and tho stimulus which
they afford to the vital principle of I*ifc. For these
and all kindred complaints they should be taken in
mild doses, to move, the bowels ecntly.but freely.
As a Dinner Pill, this is both agreeable and
useful. No Pill can be made more pleasant to take,
and certainly none has been made more effectual tc
the purpose for which a dinner pill is employed.
