Our exchanges in Tonttesw, Alabama, and Upper Georgia, come to us with accounts of the extent of the heavy and long continued rains, damages, Ac., which oocnrrcd last week.- ■. The Huntsville (Ala.) Advocate,of 10th Inst soya .- “The olouds gathered, the rains descended and thefloodscame upon ns. From Friday night it rained almost evenly on until Mon* day morning. The whole country, has had the benefit of the floods— crocks and rivers are ail up higher than for years.. “The high water and the drift in Hnrri crane crotk in this coun'y on Sunday caused the trestle work in this bottom on tho Mem phis uM Charleston Railroad to bulge out- wards, soA* to render it dangerous for the cars to cross. The train that night did not go eastward or return. Some families had to be removed in the night. “The train did not return from Stevenson this (Wednesday) morning, and wo think we shall not have any trains regularly for severs al days The ram bos extended over the wbolo country ; all the streams most be out of their banks, and immense damage of every kind result from the flood.” The XaahviUeUuion A American, of 10th iost., states that considerable damage was done to the Nashville and Chattanooga rail road by the roeant heavy rains. Tho Union-says: “By a telegraphic dispatch to Gen. An derson from Mr. George Hooper, mail agent, who had readied Dconcrd with the mail, which left Chattanooga Tuesday morning, we learn that there had been slides al the gap upon tho treok, though to wbnt extout it is uot stated.. The small trestle bridge over Rush Creek at Tantalao, (foot of the moon- tain grade beyond the tuonel,) is woshod away. A portion of the embankment be tween Anderson and Tanuita is washed away, as is nbo the rock embankment above Tantalao. ; “The damnse to the track near Bcllbnckle can be repaired ia a few boars after tho was ter subsides,’ but the repairs at other points will require considerable time.” The Dahlonega Signal of Dec. lSib. nays : “For (be put week it hu been raining almost incessantly. The streams are muon swollen, and the weather extremely warm for the season;**,,-, A correspondent qf this paper, iu Dade county represents the damage to the farmers and millere, and to the public thoroughfares of that county, u greater, by the recent rains than was evef caused by floods before. ’ All the water courses ia the mountain re gion of Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee, were swollen to ari unusual height, and much injnry to property resulted.—Augusta Constitutionalist, ked for n carbine, and with his own hand, shot each and all three of the princes, lie then took their bodies into the city, and laid them out for inspection in front or the Kot- asallie, where these wretches bad laid their victims daring the massacre. ^Effects of Railroads,—Gov. Wise states tint the additional revenue, from the new assessment of lands, will bo the current year not far short?of $400,000—showing that our real estato has been immensely ear hanced in value by the progress or public works already made. The Governor pre dicts that it will be enhanced incalculably more when the main works are completed and begin to yield a profit, which be adds, oannot De long hence, if the people will pa tiently endure the present rats of taxes.
