The work ot art which claimed our attention was the tombstone of a deceased member ot Company C., 5th U. 8. Cavalry, (pri vate James Nixou), which his comrades-in-arms purpose erecting to his memory. Just over the inscription is the representation, in bass-relief, ot a cavalry soldier mounted upon his charger. The work is well executed, and reflects great credit upon the selt-Uught artizan, Mr. Guess, who is now regularly employed by Mr. Judson. We take pleasure in calling the attention ot our readers to this piece ot workmanship lor one other ica&on than to boast ot Georgia talent, and that is to commend the chivalrous sentiment ot the soldiery that thus pays tribute to the mem ory of one ot tlieir number. Description of the New Capitol Build ing.—We notice that seine of our exchanges credit the description ot the Capitol building, which we published on Sunday morning, u> this paper. We copied the article from the Christmas Present, and so stated in an article just preceding the aforesaid description. “Honor to whom tionor is due.” Auction Sales.—This morning at 10 o’clock, Col. G. W. Adair will sell eight heavily timber ed lots on Marietta road and the State Koad, two and-a-half miles from the city limits. The sale ol this property was advertised lor yester day morning, but was postponed to allow sev eral persons to go and look at the property last evening. The sale will be at Colonel A.’s of fice this morning. Tiiieviis Arrested.—On the night ot the 9th instant Mr. Jesse Dalton, of Oglethorpe county, entertained a stranger, and awoke the uexL morning to find that his hospitality had been rewarded in an unusual manuer. His guest had departed, aud so hud about ten tliou- t-aud dollars—speeie and greenbacks. Mr. Dal ton offered a reward ot fifteen hundred dollars for the apprehension of the thief and the recov ery of tue money. Capt. Tim. Murphey, of the police, force has been in communication lor several days with Mr. Dalton. Chance for a Lawsuit.—Some of these d.nk nights some unwary pedestriau will tum ble into the excavation on the vacant lot oppo site the New Capitol Building,, and if he cornea out with a broken neck, lractured riba, or dislo cated joints the city of Atlanta may expect a suit tor damages. Would it not be a matter ot economy for the city authorities to order a fence built about the dangerous place ? There are other man-traps about the city which it would be as well to look after. We learn that a few nighis since a couple of gentlemen, on deeds o! charity intent, stumbled into the cellar of the new building on the corner o! Decatur and Ivy streets.
