DEATHS
Robert Cocfyrap
Robert L. Cochran, 41, of
Summerville, passed away at
9:45 Saturday evening, Dec.
22, in Atlanta from injuries
received in an automobile acci
dent.
Mr. Cochran was born in
Chattooga County on Aug. 28,
1938, son of the late Frank
Cochran and Susie Mabelle
Wells Cochran.
Mr. Cochran was an
employee of the H.O.H. Con
struction Company.
Survivors include his step
father, J. C. Hunter of
Leesburg, Ala.; two sisters,
Mrs. Katie Ruth Whitfield of
Dalton and Mrs. Edgar
Hunter of Centre, Ala.; two
stepsisters, Mrs. Harold
Slayton of Trion and Mrs.
Mary Ann Wells of Leesburg,
Ala.; one brother, Ronald C.
Cochran of Atlanta; one step
brother, Butch Hunter of
Leesburg, Ala.; four aunts;
four uncles; and several
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 1 p.m.
from the chapel of Lane
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Wilburn Dooley and the Rev.
Martin Gary officiating. In
terment was in the Summer
ville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Roy Starkey, James Pierce,
Bud Whitley, Charles Wells,
Charles Owens and Morgan
Laney Jr.
Lane Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
Bud Johpstop
J. V. “Bud” Johnston, 71,
of Route 3, Summerville, Dry
Valley community, passed
away Monday, Dec. 24, at
12:10 a.m. in a Rome hospital.
Mr. Johnston was born in
Chattooga County on Aug. 11,
1908, son of the late M. J.
Johnston and the late Jennie
Dawson Johnston.
He was a guard at the
Chattooga County Work
Shop, and was preceded in
Trion Man Is
Extradited In
Robbery Case
A Trion man was recently
extradited from California to
Tennessee on armed robbery
charges.
Authorities identified the
man as Daniel G. Brooks (no
age or address available).
Brooks, according to a
report, was being held in Red
Bluff. Calif., on auto theft
charges. He was extradited
by the Hamilton County
Sheriff's Department to Chat
tanooga, Tenn., on charges of
armed robbery. Brooks
allegedly held up a Red Food
Store in Chattanooga on Aug.
17.

Feb. 23, 1967.
Surviving are one
daughter, Mrs. Shirley
Farmer of Summerville; seven
sons. Gene Johnston and Joe
Johnston, both of Rossville,
Fred Johnston, Don
Johnston, Frank Johnston
and Reuben Johnston, all of
Summerville, and Roger
Johnston of Cedar Bluff, Ala.;
two sisters, Mrs. Martha
Heckler of Covina, Calif., and
Mrs. Nettie Cody of Summer
ville; three brothers, Glenn
Johnston, Jess Johnston and

Arrested Here On
Charges Os Arson
Arson is suspected in five
fires that occurred during the
Christmas holiday weekend in
the county. An Alabama man
has been arrested in connec
tion with two of the fires, ac
cording to reports.
Authorities identified the
man as Roy Robert Eilenburg,
20, of Route 1, Gaylesville. He
has been arrested and charged
with one count of arson in the
first degree and one count of
arson in the third degree. He
has been released on a SIO,OOO
bond.
Eilenburg, according to a
Summerville Police Depart
ment report, was arrested and
charged in connection with
two separate fires on Martin
Street in Summerville early
Sunday morning. Eilenburg
and a Summerville teen-ager
were observed at both fires,
the report said. They were
later stopped on a traffic
violation, said the report.
Following further investiga
tion evidence was found in
their vehicle that allegedly
connected the two to the fires.
Other arrests are expected
to follow, said a police depart
ment spokesman.
The first house that burn
ed was an empty rental house
owned by Beulah Shropshire
on Martin Street. The second
house, also an empty rental
house believed to be owned by
a local Methodist church, had
been burned earlier this year.
The house is located at the
corner of Martin and Lee
streets.
In between the time of the
two fires on Martin Street,
firemen responded to a fire at
a rental house owned by Billy

Funeral services were held
Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 11
a.m. from the chapel of Lane
Funeral Home with the Rev.
James Crane and the Rev. Bil
ly Wright officiating. Inter
ment was in Summerville
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were
Pete Denson, Robert Denson,
Stanley Selman, Paul Cooper,
Albert Brumlow and Robert
Akins.
Lane Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
Penn Selman on the Penn
Bridge Road. Firemen battled
the blaze for almost an hour
but were unable to extinguish
the fire.
On Christmas Day morn
ing firemen responded to a fire
at an abandoned building on
the Lyerly Highway. Firemen
arrived around 3:30 a.m. and
quickly extinguished the
blaze. Firemen, however, had
to return to the building early
Wednesday morning to put
out another fire. The blaze
was also quickly extinguish
ed.
