Whereas the above re
cited aft hath been found j
bv experience to be inf’ufficientj
and of no efFcfcl, inafmuch as it;
reouircs the cammiffioners of
the roadsof fhe county of Bryan,
to keep in repair the bridge
which is laid over the river Oge
chcc, between the counties of
Bryan and Chatham, in cafe jfie
owners of the fame bridge fhall |
refufe or negleft to repair the
fame when neceflary, but hath
not empowered the faid com- 1
miffioners to ufiae executions to
fatisfy the fum or Turns neceflary
foi the pm pole aforefaid.
Be it therefore matted ly the
Senate and Houfe of Reprejentalives
of the Slate of Georgia in General j

of the fame, it is hereby enabled t
That whenever the faid bridge
(hall he in finch, a condition as to
expol'e patTengers or others, or
their property to injury or dam
age, or to obftruft or caufc delay
to veffels paffing up and down
the faid river; the commiflioners
of the roads of the county of
Bryan, or either of them (hall
give notice rhereof, and of the
repiirs which may be neceflary
to one of the owners of the faid
bridge, or his or their executor
01 adminiilrator, or one of them,
or the agent or attorney of the
owners thereof. And if in the
coinfe of thirty days after fuch
notice the repairs are not done,

jAn ACT to alter and amend the
militia law of this fate , and to
provide for arming the militia
thereof.
WHEREAS the defence
and fafety of republican
| Rates mud greatly depend on
their militia, which cannot be
well organized and difciplined
without arms and experienced
officers; and no adequate pro
vifion has been made by this
Rate for the attainment of thofe
definable objefts.
Be it therefore enacted by the Se
nate and House of Representatives
of the State of Georgia , in General
AJfmhly mety and by the authority
of the fame t That the field officers
in each county (hall have power
to arrange and define the com
pany and bdtialion dißfidh, fio
as to make the fame compadl and
convenient for exercifie, Sc when
they fhall be of opinion that any
afteration orralterations are ne
ceffary in any of the di drifts
aforefaid, they fliall tranfimit an |
account of fuch alteration or
alterations to the commanding
officer of the brigade to which
the company or battalion be
longs, for his approbation, and
if he approves of the alteration
or alterations, the company or:
battalion dißrift, as altered, (ball |
thenceforth be the dißrift of fuch
company or battalion, any law
or ufage to the contrary notwith-
Randing; Provided, I hat nothing,
herein contained fhall extend to j
authorize or empower the faid '
field officers, to make any alter- <
ation or alterations that fliall or |
may derange, or deprive any
officer of his commiffion, rank
or command.
And be it further enabled , That
all fines incurred by the militia,
when not in the fervice of the
United States. Riail be applied
and difpofed of for military pur-1
poles, the good of the militia ♦

the payment of non-commiffion
ed officers, and appoitioncd
among them according to the

And he it further enabled , That
his Excellency the Governor,
Rial! be, and he is hereby em
powered and required to pur
chafe on the beR terms, one
thoufand mufkets and bayonets,
five hundred pair of horfeman's
piflols and five hundred fwords;
and as foon as the fame can be
procured, they lha-1 be depofited

to the miliiia of this Rate, for
felt defence at coR and charges.
And be it further enabled , That
the keeper of the public arms
fhall be anfwerable for the fafe
keeping of the fame, and that

this. Rate, all Rich fiam or Turns
of money, as he fliall. or may

HERE AS the feventh

: of the conflitution direfts, that
| the houfe of reprefentatives fhall
be compoficd of mem
bers from all the counties accord
ing to their refpeftive numbers
of free white perfbns, and inclu-
I ding three fifths of all the people '
1 of colour; the aftual enurnera-;
tion to be made within two years
; from the date of the faid confli
tution; and each enumeration
having been made agreeably to
the twenty.fifth fe6tion of the,
faid article > and reported to the j

apportion the reprefeniation of
each county refpcftively to the
laid enumeration or ccnfus.
