Fellow Citizens, FROM whit ht« already been re 'marked and prom’Ted, much fevrnty * ani reproof, may poflibly, be expeded I But, the man who thinks and adi wth a becora ng fpirit, is the caufe of an abided country, is fure to he affailed by thofe, the gall of whofe ink is milk, when compared by the bitternrfa of their hearts. W th me, the love of my coun try is a Itffon of reafon, aud the detef tatioo ot its enemies, a moral du y, unconfcious of fear, noraduated by the hope of reward—l have little to appre hend and Ids toexped; ftlll, I hope to be cool in decuion, tho* warm in purfuil and unwearied in perfeverance. It has been obferved, tha? injury may be aggravated by iofult, and that iofult may be embittered by pleafantry. The ijufticc of this fentimeut is fu.ly verified in the condud of a certain party, on a recent occaGon. Few who think cor • redly, can tell the detriment, which the republican icdcralifta have fuftained on this occaGon, thro* the nvfchicvous influence of the Britifh fadion. A cool bead and a warm heart may dill fecuie our political falvation. Let the perils wc have brave'y en countered and honorably overcome be remembered by every genuine Amer'can. May the ie.*olleAion of them infpirc him with a true cftimatc of the ftCvdom of his country. It is firioufly to be wifhed that the worthy offspring of the war-worn citizens who were infulted and barbaroufly famifhed in captivity, or expofed fo the pcrtHential gloom of a prifon (hip may revenge while they abhor the unmerited injuries and unna tural cruelties of a maternal embrace. I his is the origin, and fuch in part only, the conduct of a party which ftill coot nues cumcrms, aftivc and au dacious. The dread of te;ribution drove a herd of thole dcfpicable wretches to the dreary wilds of Nova Scotia. The benevolence of the American charadcr on the other hand, tempted many of them to remain. Their fnivilling and diffimulation, aided by the dark defigns of a black minded ffatcfman obtained them the forbearance and even the pro tection of a people they would cheer fully have facrifrccd at the inlatiatc and bloory (brine of monarchy. With whom could it have originated ? Wc furely cannot hefitate to derernvne when the infamous letters of Pbociar. arc rcci'llcfted. Tht author of thefe letters is known to the public. Americana, ray too paffive and crc ! duous countrymen, again I charge you, be on your guard, be v.gilant. Meditate on th a a!lu fion recognize your lunation and cfcapc mpendmg evil. H.. KNOXVILLE, July 30. Departed this life on the 25th inflant, after a fhort illnefs, Colonel George Nicholas ; In this patriot the friends of liberty and of republicanifm, have loft one of their brighteft ornaments. It is not Kentucky alone that has caufe to lament him. Fear ing neither power nor perlecu tion, and boldly refolving not to fhrink from his duty, he never ceafed to examine, to cenfure, and to expofe, with ability and ■ with firmnefs, all ufurpations of 1 power, and violations of his country's rights, from what quar ter foever attempted. His lofs to his country as a ; ftatefman and a patriot, will not 1 perhaps be the moft to be re r gretted ; to the rifing youth of I Kentucky, the future hopes ol their country, and to whofe in ftruftion he was gcncrouHv de voting a portion of his time and talents—it is irreparable. It the public fenfalions at this event will be fo flrongly excited, and the public lofs fo deeply and extcnfively felt, what mull be the fenfalions, and what the lofs, to a tender and affedionate wife, and to twelve hopeful but infant children ? tr NOTICE.
