Representative Says His Can
didacy For U. S. Senate From
Georgia Growing in Strength
Daily.
Atlanta, Ga. —Congressman T. W.
Hardwick, candidate for the United
Slates senate irorn Georgia, spent
esterday greeting a number of old
friends in Atlanta, hearing Informal
reports of his race from various parts
of the state and echoing the assup
ance they brought him. He seemed
to be in the pink of good health de
spite the arduous program of speak
ing that has kept him busy lately.
“I never felt better or more confi
dent,” said he. “I am enjoying the
best of good health and spirits, ana
my confidence increases from day to
day. I believe my candidacy is gain
ing strength every minute, through
out Georgia. I meet enthusiasm
everywhere I speak, and always I
find my audiences responsive. But
1 am not permitting my confidence
to lull me into idleness. I have been
very busy and I intend to continue
busy.”
Mr. Hardwick was on his way to
South Georgia On Wednesday he
will speak in Wayne County at a bar
becue near Odum. He will speak
Thursday morning at Gum Log, Lib
erty County, and Thursday afternoon
in Ludowici. Friday morning will
find him in Glennville, Tattnall Coun
ty, and lie will he in Collins that af
ternoon, speeches having been ar
ranged at both places. On Saturday
he wil speak at Gainesville, he is en
gaged to speak next Monday in Mor
mantown, Montgomery County. He
has spoken in more thap 40 counties
In all parts of the state, entering ten
of the twelve congressional districts;
and his general plan is to visit every
part of the state if that is humanly
il osßible in the time remaining.

Paris. —Baseball today was rejected
as one of the sports at the Olympic
Karnes to he held In 1916 at Berlin.
James R. Sullivan, head of the Am
erican delegation, requested that base
ball he Included but the president, Baron
Pierre de Coubertln reminded him that
it was necessary in order to have base
ball considered an international sport,
that six countries should play the game.
The congress passed unanimously a mo
tion declaring that ‘each sport shall
have an international federation con
trolling that sport and that no federa
tion exists, by the committee of organi
zation of the lymplc games. Track
Judges shall he appointed by the country
wluVe the games are held."
The congress decided that notification
of the number of entries must be made
to the committee a month In advance
and the name* of the entrants 15 days in
advance. Archery and rugby football
were adopted as permissible sports.
After limiting the duration of the
Olympic games to three weeks Instead
of three months the congress closed its
sessions.

GEORGIA'S COTTON INDUSTRY.
Atlanta, Ga.—The report of H. M.
Stanley, commissioner of commerce
and labor, is now in the hands of the
state printer and will soon be ready
for the legislature. It is beautifully
illustrated and contains a great deal
of valuable Information.
The report shows that there are
145 ootton mills in Georgia, using
228,100,188 pounds of cotton a year,
turning out products values at $82,-
G73.U00. In the cotton, woolen and
knitting mills the operatives number
24.777. There are GO operatives un
der 12 years old: 3,074 from 14 to 18
j years, and over 18 years, 16,452.
