price today owing largely to a decline
at Liverpool. Demand hifre was lacking,
regardless of reports that farmers were
storing wheat instead of selling. The
opening, which was B-8 to 1 1-8 lower,
was follow%] by a decided further drop
Rains over the drought region gave a
setback to corn. After starting 3-8 to
1 off values ,rallied somewhat but then
fell lower than before.
Oats sagged with other grain.
Provisions declined. They seemed to
have no support.
Rerations in wheat were only moderate.
Lack of buying power was evident. The
close was weak at 13-4 to 2 net decline.
Humors of export sales of oats put
some back bona temporarily into corn. The
dose hdwever. was heavy 3-4 to 1 5-8
under lust night.

LIGHTHOUSES: PANAMA
Panama.—Work will be begun soon
on the construction of 14 small light
houses for the Panama government.
The work will be done by private
contractors. All of the lighthouses
will be on the Pacific coast and will
be a distinct aid to the navigation of
these waters, especially to the small
coast traders that make the Port of
Panama their home port. The light
houses will be located as follows: One
at the entrance to Panama bay. one
on Melon Island, one at San 4%riot,
one at Port Obntdla, on* at Port Pos
ada. two at Aquadulce. one at Ohttre
at the entrance to the la Villa river,
two at Mensabe. one at Santa Lucia

SUSPEND HIGHER COTTON RATES.
Washington.—Proposed higher freight
rates on cotton from producing sections
to Pensacola. Fla., suspended on April 27
until August 29 today were approved by
the inter-state commerce commission.
