War To Aid United States Trade,
Says Governor Baldwin
New Haven.—Governor Baldwin tonight
declared the European war was likely to
benefit America in material ways. He
said: "I think the general war in Eu
rope Is likely to he of considerable tem
porary benefit to this country, bet ulti
mately it would probably detract from its
resources and perhaps ’for a time b-ins
on serious business conditions.

DINNER PARTIES
IN MOTOR CARS
One of the Latest Fads Invent
ed By Society Hostesses.
Want Fresh Novelties.
London. —Society hostesses are
crazy for fresh novelties in the enter
taining line. Motor car dinner par
ties are the latest fads. Automobiles
of guests are arranged in a semj-cir
cle in the grounds of the house, and
the people take their seats in one side
of the automobile whilst dining in
alfresco fashion off the other. Those
who are particular are allowed white
cloths. There may be an absence of
dignity about the proceeding, but It
Is delightfully cool way of din
ing. Then “river nights” are becom
ing the lage. Leading hostesses are
hiring elaborately furnished launches
for moonlight trips on the Thames.
Music, champagne, and supper are the
chief attractions. The launch travels
about half a dozen miles down the
river starting at midnight, carrying
the Jolly parfy of invited guests.
Dancing, bridge, and sometimes bath
ing from the boats, whiles away the
early hours before the dawn. One
launch I saw fitted up by a leading
furnishing firm was done in the style
of a Turkish interior, with divans
abundance of huge cushions, and soft
rugs. I heard of another which took
a case of champagne on board for each
guest.
Yet, another woman's club Is short
ly to be opened In the West End,
though, judging from the fact that
special inducements in the way of re
duced entrance fees and subscriptions
are being held out to prespective mem
bers. club life amongst women is not
exactly booming. They tell me the
woman’s clubs which exist are not
quite heavens of peace and rest. Per
haps English women are not cut out
for club life. They lack the spirit of
camaraderie so essential, and the dis
cipline and restraint that are neces
sary in the well conducted club gets
on their nerves.
It is not long since a woman's club
which had a very distinguished mem
bership was broken up by two of Its
habitues introducing & couple of men
friends dressed as women. Fancy a
member of. sav, the reform, or the
constitutional, bringing In a lady dis
guised in trousers. What two daring
ladies did might have been done by
any Jolly irresponsible women, but it
broke up the club. It was a nine days
scandal. Which proves, I think, that
English women are somewhat defic

MOTOR USED FOR CARRYING
ARMY GUNS; EXPERI
MENTING
London. —Military circles are In
tensely Interested at the result of an
experiment undertaken by Earl Fit
zellllan, the close friend of King
George, In transporting army guns by
motor Instead of horses. The experi
mental journey was completed In 7
hours, In place of the five days that
horses would have required, and the
return Journey was equally succeesful.
The whole fleet of motor care did not
report the slightest trouble.
The probable outcome of the experi
ment will be an arrangement between
the war office authorities and Impor
tant British motor car manufacturers,
but which the latter will be subsided
to hold a certain number of motor
car chaels and drivers at the disposal
of the government.
This arrangement will, of course,
be subject to the requirements of

To Put an End to All
Superfluous Hair.
Specialist’s Advice to Ladles Who Have
Been Deceived and Disappointed.
Thousands of ladies and even young
girls have learned to their sorrow that it
does not pay to trifle with hairy growths
on the face and arfhs by trying to re

awfully and burn like mad. There is,
however n simple, inexpensive treat
ment which never fails to remove all
trace of superfluous hair absolutely
without pain or injury to the skin or
comp’exion. It was put on public sale
by a well known society woman who
found that it entirely destroyed all trace
of her own growth, after all else failed.
In a surprisingly large number of cases
It has killed the hair roots so that the
hair has never returned. Ts you have
tried all the advertised depilatories in
vain and war.t sure, quick results, get
it from Howard's Itexall Drug Stores, or

RESINOL CURED
ECZEMA IN ITS
WORST FORM
Feb. 25. 1914: “T had eczema in the
worst form all over my face. Tt started
with a rash like hives, and itched and
burned so that T could not keep my
hands off of It. I could hardly sleep.
The more I rubbed it the worse it itch
ed, and the more it spread. Blisters
fonded, and when opened had pus in
them. I looked terrible. I would not
let myself be seen This lasted for about
three months, and. during that time I
tried prescriptions, cold creams, camphor,
etc. But It still kept getting wefrse, un
til at last I tried Resinol Ointment and
Resinol Soap. THE FIRST APPLICA
TION RELIEVED THE ITCHING AND
BURNING. I purchased a Jar of Resi
nol Ointment and a cake of Resinol
Soap, and by the time they were gone
my fare was entirely well—my skin is as
Smooth and dear as ever.” (Signed) Mrs.
Phebe Cole, 1009 N. Walnut SL, West
Bay City, Mich.
Resinol Ointment and Resinol Soap are
