NEW YORK COTTON
l
New York.—The circulation of Decem
ber notices estimated at about three
thousand bales and the easier ruling of
Liverpool, promoted some scattered sell
ing at the opening of the cotton market
today and first prices were unclianged to
six points lower. There appeared to be
a pretty good demand at the decline,
however and prices soon steadied with
the market ruling within two oT three
points of Saturday night’s closing figures
toward the end of the first hour. Spot
houses were moderate buyers of Decem
ber while there was some investment
and trade buying of later deliveries on
'Reports that further rains in the South
were hurting the grade of cotton held
,in the interior.
Cotton future closed steady.

NEW ORLEANS COTTON
New Orleans.—Cotton opened steady
today at a slight advance In price of
bearish private crop figures of 15,750,-
000 exclusive of linters, issued by a local
authority. Improvement in the demand
from buyers for investment and slender
offerings from all sources appeared to
hare caused the steadiness. Half an
hour after the opening prices were two
to six points up.
Cotton futures closed quiet, four points
up to six down net.

NEW YORK BOND MARKET
New York.—The bond market opened
dull and listless on the New York Stock
Exchange today, the first full day of
trading of any sort since the exchange
was closed on July 30. Unusual interest
was manifested among brokers who
thought that the two-hour session of
Saturday did not afford a full test of
conditions and feared that there might
be a general tendency to liquidate by
foreign holders.
Nothing of this sort developed during
the first quarter hour of trading. For
a full minute after the opening gong
only nine bonds with a face value of $9,-
000 had been sold. The larket appear
ed to be in a state of stagnation.
United States Steel 5s rose % to 993£,
Southern Pacific convertibles 4s and
Distillers Securities ss-were off V», sell
ing at 8034 and 55 respectively. West
inghouse convertibles declined three
points and Central Pacific 4s declined
3% points.
All fears of a flood of liquidation from
abroad seemed to vanish within the first
quarter of an hour. Indications were
that the second day of restricted trading
would be much like the first.

TO DOREMUS & CO.
New York. —The feature of the open
ing was the selling by Hagedorn of early
position and buying later positions.
Liverpool was a buyer in this market.
Hentz and other spot people were good
buvcrs of October on a 8-cent basis.
Weather conditions throughout the
belt were bad, this had a stimulating
effect, as It will tend to lower grades.
Sentiment Is favorable to the market,
as there Is a disposition to buy on all
soft spots.—Anderson.
