MILLS TO HAVE WATER
FOR MONDAY , OCTOBER STH
Mayor Dunbar stated this morning
that Supt. Trasher, of the Olivet-
Const ruction Co., announces (hat he
expects to have water in the canal
1o operate the factories by Monday
week, according to contract.
The announcement is received with
much pleasure by the city officials
and the public generally as it. will
mean the resumption of business for
Ihe big enterprises now tied up by
the lack of water.
However, there will still he much
work to be done after itae water is
turned on as the finishing touches
will have to be put on and there will
be quite an amount of strengthening
to be done.
The record made in repairing the
canal this lime places Augusta in a
better light than in 1888. AT that
time it took 104 days to get the wat
er in shape for operating the factor
ies while they will be running in sev
eral days less than 50 dayß this time.
In the case of the city water sup
ply conditions were vastly different
from what they are now. The water
from Ray’s creek was brought down
to the pumping station at that time,
but now- the stream is almost dried
