Since Wednesday there has been a good enquiry for Cotton in lids market, but the stringent prices u.-ked by holders has kepi pur chasers out of the market, and the transactions have been loti limited extent, at an improvement on las' ’A e loesday’s prices of i cent. APAL VCMh OLA, J AN. l(i.— Cotton Since our report of Tuesday, there has been a moderate inquiry wild sales es a few hundred teller, a day, without any material .literalion in prices. To day, factors have manifested more anxiety to sell, and in some cases, purchases have been made on ratherjeasier terms. We however make no change in our quotations. NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 16.— Colton —The re ceipts for three days were 10,415 hales, exports »>aim* time 8317, leaving stock «n him! 169.964 hales. On Wednesday the sales made public reached 3000 bales, without c hange in price; but it has since transpired that one round ii-t of 1632 bales was disposed of, for shipment to England, the particulars of which are not made known. On Thursday some Tout) bales were disposed of. at prices about the same as previously at the opening oftlie market,hm gradually stiffened as the day ad vanced, and closing’w ith a good deal of irregulari ty owing to ihe prevalence of a rumor that laier and more favoralde news was in the city. The foundation of ilus rumor vvas made apparent yesterday morning, by the appearance in the columns in the Commercial 'Times, of intelli gence one day later fmrn Liverpool, rec eived by the ship Alanc‘he> eral Mobile. This intelligence couple-cl with the rather large iransiu-liotis of the two prev ions days had the effect to give addition . I firmness to the in irket yesierd iv, and the wry full rates demanded by holders so far < becked the ope rations as to confine ihe sales to ah in to it) bales. 'The sales sum up 19,5U0 bales, taken parly on speculation and partly tor the Continent, but th greater portion for England and the North—and l!ic business of the week amounts to 35,100 bales, prices are fully up to our last quotations for all qualities, while for low Middling, and tie- Ordina ry ami Inferior grades, our figures are slightly ad vanced.
