On Monday tbe market was more quiet during the morning, but in the after noon very considerable sales were made at full rates. On Tuesday there was less doing, though sellers were very steamy in their views. On Wed nesday there was a very general attendance of buyers, and the sales wen, again very large. \ es terday the transactions were more limited, bur prices were fully maintained. Throughout t!.e week the market has been very much excited . end the sales have in consequence been at very irre gular prices. The principal improvement has ' been on the lower qualities. NEW ORLEANS,Jan- IC.p.m.— Colton. —The past week closed with a very animated demand for Cotton, and prices had recovered what they had lost during the early part of the week. Trans actions during ttie present have been irregular, as is generally the ca-c when the market is more undei ibe control of the speculation than under that of the legitimate export demand. 'The mar ket closes without spirit, the sales nf the day amounting to only 1000 hales. The total of the week’s safe amount to 26,000 bales, as follows, including a list of 5090 bales sold on Tuesday, the disposal of which was not generally known, viz: Monday 2000, Tuesday 9000, Wednesday 2500, Thursday 7000, Friday 4500 and to-day 1000 bales. Corn. —The demand has continued very active, arni the sales of the week are reported at about 55,- 000 sacks, which includes one lot of 50,000 bush els to arrive, and many resales as the receipts have not admitted of such large operations. The pi ice opened at 68 a 70e. and continued at that rate until Friday, when 75c. was freely paid. To-day, how ever, the market is less firm, and 5000 sacks have been sold at 70c.
