PATENT MEDICINES.
JAYNE’S ALTERATIVE.
THIS valuable preparation combines all the
medicinal virtues of those articles, which
long experience has proved to possess the most.safe
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,
for the cure of Scrofula King's Evil, U kite Swell
ings Ulcers; Qcrofulous, Cancerous anti Indolent
Tumours; JMercuriul and Syphilitic Affections,
Rheumatism, Gout. Scurvei•/, Neuralgia or Tic-
Doulou-cux, Cancer, Goitre or Bronchocele, [swelled
Keck,] Enlargements of the Bones. Joints, Glands
or Ligaments orofthe Ovaries. Liver, Spleen. Kid
neys, 4c- All the diseases of the Skin, such as
Tetter, Ringworm, Biles , Pimples. Carbuncles Jpc-,
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases.
Dropsical Swellings, Constitutional Disorders and
diseases originating from a depraved or Impure
state of the Blood or other fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re
spectfully assure the public that he has not offered
this preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion. and close and rigid study, nor until after
twelve years’ experience had manifested its great
superiority over every other article of the kind,-
and he now recommends it with confidence, nn >
believing that the above combination ot medicine
will effectually eradicate from the system a < i
of disease some of which have heretofore net n ( on
eidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
disease and w ith unparalleled succes*, especta.. y
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating horn
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer n.nd Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance
to c ompletely remove the disease. .Not a solitary
case of fa 1 1 u re. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing hronrho- j
cele an 1 cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may he
removed with as much certainly as Fever and
A r ue. He does not w islt to he understood as say
iiur that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
Ngue, but with as much certainty; and further, that
lie has good reason for believing that this prepara- j
lion will not only t ure these diseases when formed, I
hut that it destroys the x inns or poisonous principle (
lurking in the system, from whhh that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of.scrofula emanate.
Scrofula—King’s Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous cases
of Scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swellings, i
and always with the most deci led success.
Skia Disease?.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt
rheum, or letter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaiinxiTced skin, &c.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com- i
plaint and Dyspepsia, and w ilh the happiest effect.
Tic-Douloureuz.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
and in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great j
many cases of chronic rheumaism, and in every j
case in which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed j
Coat.
A number of cases of gout have been cured hy j
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to his- taking ,
tl» Alterative he had been confined to his room;
hut before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his busiiie.-s, from which he had so Jong
been excluded by his afflictions.
Dropsical .Swellings.
This medicine increases the pow ers of digestion,
excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, hy
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all !
unnatural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering ,
pa ins and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the medicine has !
been taken for some time, no matter for w h f pur- j
pose, the general health of the patient has always
been improved t*y it.
In conclusion, I he proprietor would say that some
of the, most astonishing cases of skit, diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured ny
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
CANCER.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In ilie spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear- ■
ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, w ife of I’eler
Stretch, of Salem, N.J. It was examined hy many 1
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, S
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope 1
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was !
abandoned, w hich, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr. ;
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The |
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charae- \
ter. In about three months, after enduring incredi
hie sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. .Bhe remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In flic
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previons to its removal. 'Phis tnmor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un- !
derthe right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and j
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest thedisease. Indeed her whole body appear- !
ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid- 1
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit, \
both her parents having died of Pulmonary con
sumption. The experiment was now made with j
ihis Alterative. It was at first given in small
doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu
ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long as she
t ok it, which was about .-ix months, and the skin
over and around the tumour was wet night and
morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hy
driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas
ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times
very painful, w hen the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and
became soft, and then began to diminish, and con
tinued gradually decreasing until every vestige of
disease was removed. The tumour in her left
breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis
persed, No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
appeared afterwards; and her general health, which
had bt en so bad for fourteen years as to make life a
burthen, w as effec ually and permanently restored.
The proprietor is in possession of the diseased
breast, and those who choose may examine it. He
would also say that he could mention over a dozen
cases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative
has subdued cancer ami cancerous tumours, but he
has %ol room hereto record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge. N. J.,
had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind
pipe, a* large as the half of an orange, which was
cured by using this Alterative fur about four
months.
Mbs 11 S .South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire spaee between the
« bin and breast-bone, and extended around on
each >ide cf her neck to behind her ears, and from
her ears to her shoulders, and produced aw ful de
lormity. It commenced growing when she was
but fixe years old, and continued gradually to in
crease until she was nineteen, at which time she
commenced using this Alterative, which she took
fur seven months, which entirely reduced the en
largement; and she has now as smooth and pretty
a neck as can he toiind. The proprietor is not at
liberty to give her name in print, but will refer per
sons to her.

GALVAN J C KINGS
AND
MAGNETIC FLUID.
yRNHIS remarkable invention, which has received the
_|L almost universal approbation of the medical pro
fession of Great Britain, comprises an entirely new ap
plication of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means of
w hich the ordinary Galvanic Batteries, tlectric and -Mag
netic Machines, Ac., at e entirely dispensed with, and ihc
mysterious powers of Galvanism applied without any
of the objections which are insuperable from the gene
ral mode now in use. The strong do.-es, and at irregu
lar intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the Ma
chines, has been pronounced, at'.cr a lair and impartial
trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to remedy
this radical defect, that this new application was pro
jected, which alter unceasing toil and perseverance, has
been brought to its present slate of perlection. The
Galvanic Kings answer all the purposes of the most
expensive Machines, and in many other respects are
more safe and certain in accomplishing the dcsirod
ell'ect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, me confidently recommended in all
D.SOKDERs WHICH ARISE FROM AN ENFEEBLED OR IN
HEATHY SPATE OF THE NERVOUS OR VITAL SYSTEM, and
these complaints are among the most painful and uni
versal to which w e are subject. They arise, w ithout ex
ception, from one simple cause—a derangement of the
Nervous svstem —and it was in these cases that other
“ remedies'* having so often failed, a new agent was
greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, has
been found m the proper and judicious application of
Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used w ith entircsuc
cess in all cases of Rheum atism, acute or chronic, ap
plying to the head, face or limbs ■ (Jour, Tic-Dot or rex
Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nf.rvous or Sick
Headache, Indigestion , Paralyses. Palsy, Epilepsy,
Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Appoblexv,
Stiffness f Joints. Spinal Complaints, K.mbaco,
Neuralgia, Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of thk
Head, Pains in the Chest and Side. General Debili
ty, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical F.nercv,
and all Nervous Disorders. In cases of continued
Dyspepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement «f
the digestive organs, they have been found equally' suc
cessful. Their extraordinary effects upon the system
must be witnessed To be believed, and as a certain prr
vf.ntive for the preceding complaints they are equal
ly recommended. The Kings are of different price*,
being in.ole of all sizes, and of various ornamental pat
terns, and can be worn by the mostdelicate female w itliout
the slightest inconvenience. In fact the sensation i«
rather agreeable Iliaii otharwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, &c.
In some cases of a very severe character and of long
standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic Kings
is not sufficient to arrottlie progress of disease and ulti
mately to restore hen It li. The i mproved modification in
the Gai.van c Belts, Bracelets, <Nc., entirely reme
dies this objection ; any degree of power that is required
can readily be obtained, and no complaint which the
mysterious agent of Galvanism ean effect will fail to he
permanently relieved. These articles are adapted to the
waist, arms, wrists, limbs, ancles or any part of ilie body
with perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces
are used w ith greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally; al.-o in cases of Ner
vous Deafness; and with almost uniform succe-s as n
preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar
complaints.
Christie’s Magnetic Fluid.
Is issued in connection with tlm Galvanic Kings.and
all their modifications. This composition has been pro
nounced by the French Chemists to be one of the mo.t
extraordinary discoveries of modern science. It i* be
lieved to possess a remarkable power of rendering tiu<
Nerves sf.iisitive toGalvaiiic acttoii, by these mean*
causing a Circulation of the influence at the seat of dis
ease, and thus giving rapid and permanent relief. No
oiliorcomposition in chemistry is known to produce the
same effector to impart a similarproperty tolhe nervou*
svstem by meansof an outward local application. Tho
Magiif.tic Fluid contains nothingcapable of the slight
est injury, its application is agreeable, and it is harm!e««
in its action as it is beneficial in its result. Full explana
tions and directions accompany it. Th* combined in
ventions are in every way perfectly harmless; they arn
at prices within reach of all, and the discoverer only re
quests a fair trial, a- a test of their surprising efficacy
and permanent benefit.
Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening Pias

These articles form another valuable applicatien of
the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are ai
important adjunct to the genuine Galvaiiic Kiiigs and
their modifications, acting upon the same principle, but
having this advantage of more local application. They
are confidently recommended as a valuable addition iu

of Bain and Weak..ess i the. Clie-t or Back. Bain in tho

and they have often been used w ith complete success.
They are also of the greatest advantage in Pains and

COLcLETON mrrEUS.
FOR DYSPEPTICS.
BITTERS are purely a vegetable
-EL compound. and are offered to the pub
lic from a principle of benevolence, under the full
est conviction that they will be found a safe and
sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia. They have hern
triumphantly tested not only hy some of the most
respectable families in the iSiafe, w ho have furnish
ed ample testimony as to their decided excellence,
but also by the proprietor, who, for ten years, suf
fered all the gloom incident to that distressing dis
ease. They possess ihe peculiar excellence denied
to most other Hitters, of not proving injurious by
continued use. They contain not a single delete
rious ingredient, and, as seen from the directions
which accompany each bottle, may be given w ith
entire safety to an infant in the month
If the Colleton is taken regularly and persever
ingly,( which is highly important in stubborn cases.)
they wi.ll, soon alter the use of a few bottles, he
found to act on the system like a charm—imparling
vigor to the stomach, bracing th* nerves, cleans
ing the liver, promoting digestion, increasing the
appetite, strengthening the chest and voice, reliev
ing pains, cramps, and stitches in the breast. They
are also mostexcellent for cholera morbus, habitual
cons ti pat ion, sea-sick ness, nausea, proceeding from
whatever cause. In cases of general debilitv. it
has proved one of the best remedies, and is there
fore highly recommended to elderly people, literary
gentle men, students, and others of sedentary habits.
Taken in small doses frequently through the day,
they have checked the. most violent diarrhoea, and
likewise been administered with the happiesteffect
n cholera infantum.
In all the foregoing complaints, these Hitters w ill
he found effectual if persisted in, and taken accord
ing lo the directions which accompany each bottle.
And although it has been testified by several that
they are excellent in many others, yet in none other
than those above enumerated, is the proprietor will
ing to vouch for their efficacy. They w ere prima
rily and solely intended to cure Dyspepsia.
The Colleton Bitters have been eight years be
fore. the public; find in consequence of the increas
ing demand for this valuable medicine, the proprie
tor lias entered largely into the business—bottles
are procured having “Colleton Bitters” moulded in
them—they are also numbered, sealed and stamp
ed with an appropriate motto. Price $1 per bottle.

Os the Colleton Bitters— “(purely a Vegetable
Compound ” and which, from the confidence 1 have
in the character and integrity of ihe maker and pro
prietor thereof, I verily believe to he true,) 1 en
tertain the most favorable opinion. Several of my
personal friends ami acquaintances, long afflicted
with Dyspepsia, have assured me that they haxe
found these Bitters better than any other medicine
they ever tried, for that distressing disease. And I
take the pleasure further to state that I have wit
nessed the excellency of these Bitters, in nausia,
sick-headache, and bowel complaint; in this last
particular. I have seen the Colleton repeatedly and
successfully tested among the children of my own
house-hold. No family ought to be without lids in
valuable medicine.
