“ Gov. Johnson after a further deliberation on
the expediency of railing out a volunteer
force to send to the Rio Grande, has conclud
ed that a requisition on this Stale, could not 1
be fil'ed and the force organized in time, to 1
be of any effective use on the Rio Grande.
He has been led to this conciliation by the |
suggestion of Gon. Brooke, who thinks that 1
a consideroble force of volunteers has already
arrived at Brazos, and that Gen. Scott would .
upon the receipt of the news of Gen. Taylor's ,
alarming position delacii a large force to his ;
aid. We think it is probable that the whole :
regiment of North Carolina volunteers haa
arrived at the Brazos and also the balance
of ltie Virginia regiment. The Massachusetts
regiment, cannot be far off, '1 he second
Mississippi is already at Matamoros. The
least of our fears are the capture of AJala

is any reason to apprehend much danger or
damage in these quarters. With their large
cannon and strong fortifications, these towns
can be easily defended t»y one thousand men
against six or eight thousand Mexicans/’

Dear Sir—This may certify that I nm about

j the influenza, and. the worse cough I have everex-

j friends had strong doubts of* my ever recovering.
1 got a bottlejof Schcni k’s Syrup; It done me no
I good. I then applied t" a physician, who prescrib

last my physician advised me to take Dr. WIS-

CHERRY, which has performed so many remark
able cures. 1 did so, arid I believe that saved my
life, my cough left me entirely, w hen I had taken
a single bottle. I amnowenj tying good health.—
If 1 ever again have a similar attack, or any of my
family, 1 shall immediately resort to Dr. Wistar",
Balsam of Wild Cherry. The physician who re
commended this Balsam to me, was induced to do
so from bis own pergonal observation and experi

a young man occurred in this immediate vicinity
of w hich Dr. Human informed me.

MOBILE. March 17. Cotton —Our last report
left the market in a healthy condition, and price*
buoyant. Such has been its character through
this week, until within the last t vo days, si.no
when buyers have, in a great measure, withdrawn
from the market, owing pirtly to the absence of
orders, the mail having failed for two days conse
cutively, nml parly to the high and positive exac

The buying this week, as has been the ease the

linn, few of them being free sellers even at our

Our last report left the Cotton market in a very
firm position, and apparently with still an advanc
ing tendency, as holders were 1 ringing forward
their stocks very spariimly, and generally claim- ■
ing higher rates than our quotations. These high 1
pretensions, however, seem to have had the effect i
to induce buyers to withdraw in a great measure
from the in tiket. and the transactions of tge past
three days have been on a very moderate scale
t>n Saturday the sales were confined to some 2000
bales, and on Monday scarcely 80 • bales were dis

j having amounted to 3< 09 life-, m*.king a total for j
I the three days of 5800 bales, taken partly for j
I France and England, but principally for the North, j
As regards prices, which were left very full and
firm at ike date of of our last report, the dullness
j of the past three days has checked the upward
j tendency, and most of the sales, particularly yes
-1 teadav. have been made mi slightly easier terms,
j notwithstanding more favorable rates of freight;
i though we cannot perceive that there is any de
| dine sufficiently marked to call for a re Inetion of
our quota! ions, the inside figures representing Ibe
I prices paid in most in-lances. The receipts at this

j yah from Mobile and Florida.) are 5 17.974 bales, j
