working in the in mnfacturing districts and diinin

much below the raw materiil.so ihitt.ie P'-itioi

At this decline some disposition was shown hy tlie
trade to purchase, and a good enquiry having ari-en

a fair bu-iness was done, and p-b-es were the turn '
in favor of the seller; but the demand soon di< <1 a

*' Ll\ Ell POOL, March 3.— Cotton. —During the ■
early part of the past month the unfavorable ac
counts from the manufacturing distiii ts, and the j
trade merely supplying their actual wants, caused
a heavy and drooping market, establishing a de
cline of 11. to fd per lb. on all grades of Ameri
can; but w ithin the last fen days holders are more
confident, with a firmer market; and although
from the workings of many mills on short time, we
cannot estimate the diminished consumption dur
ing the past fortnight at less than one-third, yet it !
isevid nt manufacturers’ stocks are every where ]
much diminished, and we see n -thing at present
to warrant a slut ter depres-ioti of any moment in i
t ie article, us the spinner.-,’ stocks are now uuu-u
--ally low; and a demand of about 4,000 bales per
day ought, we think, to keep prices steady, unless
your receipts hy later advices are in excess of hist
year’s, or your crop should prove over 2.0U0.003
bales. The stocks of all kinds in Gre it Britain on
the Ist inst. were 5J2.000, Hgaiiw 979,000 biles

LIVERPOOL, March 3.—Yesterday’s Corn
market was not active. Wheat sold a t 2d per

the price ranges from 7Js to 735, Flour was slow

Mterdty’s Manchester markot was not quite
as active as it had been in the previous week, still
there was a fair amount of business in Yarns and

“II \ VRE, FEB. 28. Cult aim. — From the de
pressed appearance of the m .rket at the cl /se of
our preceding report, it was clearly obvious that
unless some symptoms of a revival were shortly
manifested, a further depreci ttion in prices was to
be looked fur. That anticip ithm has been re.ili*
zed, for ow ing to the dull cin racier of the accounts
from Liverpool, and tlie imf»vorable intelligence
i from the manufacturing districts, the transactions
i have been on a -aid m->re limiteil scale than prev .-
ously noticed, and American have receded fully
3tol on former quotations. The continued ri-e in
bread stuffs, which have still an upward tendency,
is calculated to destroy confidence, and evidenl'y
deters dealers from operating beyond tlie most im
mediate i ecessiiies; and although tlie news from
j the other side of the channel has been less nnsat
i-factory uitliin the last three days, the demand
has been without activity, and the aspect ofhtisi
ness is at present far from enlivening. Looking at
1 ihe course f our m trket during this month, it w ill
he seen that a considerable degree of spirit was
displayed for tic* first fortnight, but that there has
since been a gradual decline, an I prices vv.-re now
lower than at the close of last moruh. We have
been put in possess on of ali ices to Ith inst., from
ILe United States, via England, but as they were
nor of a different tenor from those previously re.

same causes for depression therefore continue to
