PATENT MEDICINES. JAYNE’S ALTERATIVE. y*IHIS valuable preparation combines all the y medicinal virtues of those articles, \sliu h lone experience has proved to possess the must sale and efficient alterativeand deobstruent .properties, for the cure of Scrofula J\.insf 's h*vil y rV hxt€ SwcLl tnes Ulcers; Scrofulous, Cancerous and Indolent Tumours; Mercurial and Syphilitic Affections, Rheumatism, Gout t Scurvey, Neuralgia or Tic- Douloureux, Cancer, Goitre or Bronchocele, [swelled S'eck,] Enlargements of the Bones, Joints, Glands or Ligaments orofthe Ovaries, Liver. Spleen, Kid neys, All the diseases of the Skin, such as Tetter, Ringworm, Biles, Pimples, Carbuncles 6pc., Dys/iepsia and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases, Dropsical Swellings, Constitutional Disorders and diseases originating from a depraved or Impure state of the Blood or other fly ids of the body. The proprietor of this Alterative would moat re spectfully assure the public that he has not offered this preparation to their notice without due reflec tion. and close and rigid study, nor until after twelve years’ experience had manifested its great superiority over every other article of the kind, — and lie now recommends it with confidence, fully believing that the above combination of medicine will effectually eradicate from the system a class # of disease some of w hich have heretofore been con sidered incurable. He has prescribed it in almost every variety of disease and with unparalleled success, especially in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from ,1 obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri ty of the blood. Cancer and Cancerous Tumors. He has used this preparation in upwards of twen ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu mors, and i» every case but one with perfect and entire success. Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.) lie has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to completely remove the disease. Not a solitary rase of failure. All were cured. The success he has met with in curing broncho ecle and cancerous affections has convinced him that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be removed with as much certainty as Fever and Ague. J'edues nut wish to be understood as say ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and /, -rue, but with as much certainty; and further, that he iias good reason for believing that this prepara tion will not only < ure these diseases when formed, hut that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle lurking in the system, from which that peculiar class of diseases, as well as that ufsorofnlac m utialc • Scrofula—King’s Kvil. This preparation has been used in numerous cases of Scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swellings, and always with the most deci ied success. Skin Discuses. He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt rheum, or tetter, biles, blotches, pimplesfmorphew and jaundiced skin, &c. Dyspepsia and Diver Complaint. It has been used in numerous cases of liver com plaint and Dyspepsia, and w ith the happiest effect. TioDoulourctiz. It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia, and in every case it was successful. Rheumatism. This preparation has been prescribed in a great many cases of chronic rheumaism, and in every casein which it was used until the system became affected by the medicine, the disease was removed* Gout. A number of cases of gout have been cured by this preparation. In one of these cases, the man had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen years as to entirely disable him from business, and for five months immediately previous lo his taking the Alterative he had been confined to his room; hut before lie had finished the third bottle, he was enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re turned to his business, from which he had so long been excluded by his afllicflons. Dropsical Swellings, This medicine increases the powers of digestion, excites the absorbents into healthy exercise, by which watery or calcareous depositions, and all unnatural enlargements are reduced. It imparts tone and vitality to the whole system, removing ■ick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering pains and nervous affections. In fact, in every case where the medicine has been taken forsome time, no matter for \vh t pur pose, the general health of the patient has always been improved ny it. In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some of the most astonishing eases of skin diseases, can cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but want of room in this sheet precludes their publica tion at this lime. CANCER. An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative. In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear ed in the right breast of.Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter Stretch, of Salem, N. J. It. was examined by many Physicians, and w as considered by ail as cancerous, and besides bore all the characteristic marks of one. All probable means of removing it were used without the slightest benefit. It continued to in crease both in stze and painfulness, until all hope of saving her life, but hy a painful operation, w as abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr. John Rhea Burton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The whole and entire right breast was removed, and af ter examination of tlie tumor, was pronounced by all present a cancer of the most malignant charac ter. In about three months, afterendnririg incredi ble sufferings, she was envied, though broken in spirit, to get about again. Hie remained feeble, and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in deed it had been for several years before. In the spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast bad been removed, a painful tumor made its ap pearance on the right side, immediately over the [>art formerly occupied by the nipple of the right irea*t, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi ly increased for several months, ami became so painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrbus, and a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap peared in the left breast. No operation could now arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid ered hopeless. Hie was of a very scrofulous habit, both her parents having died of Pulmonary con sumption. 'Pile experiment was now made with this Alterative. It was at first given in small doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long as she took it, which was about six months, and the skin over and around the tumour was wet night and tnorning with a strong solution of lodine and Hy driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto gether, and the tnmourswelled out at the base, and j became soft, and then began to diminish, and con- j tinned gradually decreasing until every vestige of disease was removed. The tumour in her left breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and hergeneral health, which had so bad for fourteen years as to make life a burthen, was effeeually and permanently restored, j The proprietor is in jiossessioii of the diseased breast, and those who choose may examine it. He I would also s' y that he could mention over a dozen rases equal! interesting, wherein his Alterative has snbdned ancer and cancerous tumours, but he has not room hereto record them. Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind pipe, s large as the half of an orange, w hich was cured by using this Alterative fur about four months Mi»s R- —- R -.South Fourth-street, Phila delphia, ur- also cured of an enlargement of the throat, which filled tha entire spaec between the chin and hre ; bone, ujid extended around on each side of ht-r neck to behind her ears, and from her ears to h-jr shoulders, and produced awful de formity. H commenced growing when she was but five years old. and continued gradually to in rrease until she was nineteen, at which time she Commenced using this Alterative, which she took for seven months, which entirely reduced the en largement; and she hat now as smooth am! pretty a neck as can be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give her name in print, but will refer per rons to her. For sale by WM. K. THESE BITTERS are purely a vegetable compound, and are offered to the pub lic from a principle of benevolence, under the full- . est conviction that they w ill be found a safe and sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia. They have been triumphantly tested not only by some of the most respectable families in the State, vv ho have furnish ed ample testimony as to their decided excellence, but also by the proprietor, who, lor ten years, suf fered all the gloom incident to that distressing dis ease. They possess the peculiar excellence denied to most other Bitters, of nut proving injurious by continued use. They contain not a single delete rious ingredient, and, as seen from the directions which accompany each bottle, may be given with entire safety to an infant in the month. If the Colleton is taken regularly and persever ing! y,( which is highly important in stubborn cases,) they will, soon after the use of a few bottles, be found to act on the system like a charm —imparting vigor to the stomach, bracing the nerves, cleans ing the liver, promoting digestion, increasing the appetite, strengthening the chest and voice, reliev ing pains, cramps, and stitches in the breast. They are also mostexcelleat for cholera morbus, habitual constipation, sea-sick ness, nausea, proceeding from whatever cause. In cases of general debility, it has proved one of the best remedies, and is there fore highly recommended to elderly people, literary gentlemen, students, and others of sedentary habits. ’Taken in small doses frequently through the day, i they have checked the most violent diarrhoea, and likewise been administered with the happiesteffect j n cholera infantum. In all the foregoing complaints, these Bitters will he found effectual if persisted in, and taken accord ing to the directions which accompany each bottle. And although it has been testified by several that they are excellent in many others, yet in none other than those above enumerated, is the proprietor will ing lo vouch for their efficacy. They wereprima- } rily and solely intended to cure Dyspepsia. The Colleton Bitters have been eight years be fore the public; and in consequence of the increas ing demand for this valuable meuicine, the proprie tor has entered largely into the business—bottles are procured having “Colleton Bitters” moulded in them—they are also numbered, sealed and stamp ed w ith an appropriate motto Price $ I per bottle. Several of ray ; personal friends and acquaintances, long afflicted with Dyspepsia, have assured me that they have | found t hese Bitters better than any other medicine they ever tried, for that distressing disease. And 1 , take llie pleasure further testate that I have wit- ■ nessed the excellency of these- Bitters, in nausia, , sick-headache, and bowel complaint; in this fast I particular, I have seen the Colleton repeatedly and i successfully tested among the children of my ow n | house-hold. No family ought to be without this in- ! valuable medicine. REV-. A. WOODWARD, Pastor of Bt. Lukes Church, 8. C. april 29 133 DR. CHRISTIE’S GALVANIC RINGS AND MAGNETIC FLUID. r CHIUS remarkable iuvention, which hat received the [ A. almost universal approbation of the medical pro fession of Great Britain, comprise* an entirely new ap plication of Ghlvanisin, as a remedial agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic B.i Aeries, Electric and Mag netic Machines, &c., are eniirely dispensed with, and the mysterious powers of Galvanism applied w ithout any of the objections which are inseparable from the gene ral mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irregu lar intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the Ma chines, has be< n pronounced, after a fair and impartial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to remedy this radical defect, that this new application was pro jected, which after unceasing toil and perseverance, lias been brought to its present stale of perfection. The Galvanic Kings answer all the purposes of the, most i expensive Machines, and in many other respects are mure safe and certain in accomplishing the desired effect. The Galvanic Kings, used in connection with the Mac netic Fluid, a e confidently recommended in all d sokders which arise from an enfeebled or in heathy STATE OF THE NERVOUS OR VITAL SYSTEM, and these complaints are among the most painful and uni versal to which we are subject. They arise, withoutex ception, from one simple cause—a derangement of the Nervous system—and it was in these eases that other “ remedies” having so often failed, a new agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, lias been found in the proper and judicious application of Galvanism. The Galvanic Rings have been used w ith entiresuc cess in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic, ap plyingtothe head, face or limits = Gout. Tic-Doloreux Toothache. Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous oh Sick i Headache, Indigestion. Paralyse*. Palsy, Epilepsy, | Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Appoplexy, ; Stiffness f Joints. Spinal Complaints, Kumbago, Neuralgia. Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the Head, Pains in the Chest andSide.General Debili ty, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy, and all Nervous Disordf.rs. in cases of confirmed Dyspepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of the digestive organs, they have been found equally suc cessful, Their extraordinary elfects upon the system must be witnessed to be believed, and as a certain pre ventive for the preceding complaints they are equal ly recommended. The Kings are of different prices, being made of all sizes, and of various ornamental pat terns, and can be worn by the most delicate female without the slightest inconvenience. In fact the sensation is rather agreeable than otharwise. The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands, Garters, Necklaces, Ac. fn some cases of a very severe character and of long standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic Rings is not sufficient to arrestthe progress of disease and ulti mately to restore health. The improved modification in the Galvan c Belts, Bracelets, Acc., entirely reme dies ttiisobjectiou ; anydegree of power that is required can readily be obtained, and no complaint which the mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently relieved. These articles arc adapted to the waist, arms, wrists, limbs, ancles or any part of ihe body with perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces are used with greater benefit in rases of Bronchitis or affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of Ner vous Deafness; and with almost uniform success as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar complaints. Christie’s Magnetic Fluid. Is issued in connection with the Galvanic KiNGS.and all their modifications. Tins composition has been pro nounced by the French Chemists to be one of the most extraordinary discoveries of modern science. It is be lieved to possess a remarkable power ot renderihg the Nerves seiisitive to Galvahic actioii, by these means causing a circulation of the influence at the seat of dis ease, and thus giving rapid and permanent relief. No othercomposiiion in chemistry is known lo produce the same effector to impart a similar property to the nervous system by meansof an outward local application. The Magoetic Fluid contains nothing capaide of theslight est injury, its application is agreeable, and it is harmless in its action a* it is beneficial in its result. Full explana tions and directions accompany it. The combined in ventions are in every way perfectly harmless; they are at prices within reach of all, and the discoverer only re quests a fair trial, as a test of their surprising eificacy and permanent benefit. Christie’s Galvanic Strengthening: Plas teis. I These articles form another valuable application of the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are an important adjunct to the genuine Galvahic Rincsaud their modifications, acting upon the same principle, but h iving ibis advantage of more local app)ica:ion. They arc confidently recommended as a valuable addition in j the speedy cure of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; in i all nervous complaints, and as a positive remedy incases ! of Fain and We ik..es* i the Chest or Back. Pain in the | Side, in Asthma if Affections, and ill Weakness or Op pression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spinal Com plaints; their effects are of the most decided character, and they have often been used with compin' success, Thev are also of the greatest advantage in Pains and Weakness of the Breast, and are highly recommended for many of those complaints to which females are especially liable. As an effectual means for rtrengttien ing the system when debilitated with disease or other causes; as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a Preventive for Colds and in all affections of the Chest ! generally the Galvanic Strengthening Plaster will he found of great and perraanentad vantage. In a few words, it embraces all the virtues of the best tonic preparation with the important addition of the Galvunic influence, ; xvlixh is neither impaired or exhausted, whilethe action continues. Thes'- articles will be found entirely free from those objections which arc a coustantsourceof com plaint with the ordinary Plastersin common use.
