COLUMBIA, April 7. — Colton.— Our mar- | ket continues firm, notwithstanding the last ad- j v-ices from Liverpool were considered unfavorable. 1 Indeed there is a shade advance in quotations.--- All accounts now agree that the crop will fall considerably short of 2 000.000 of bales. Very little, however, is coming into market. We quote extremes at from 9| to 11J cents CHERAW, April 6.---C. f/on. —The receipts of this article rattier increased during the past week, wi:h an advance of a § Jc.—mostly in the better grades. We quote extremes at 10 a 11}. The river is in good boating order. NEW ORLEANS, April 3. Cotton.—Ar rived since the 30th ultimo, 0331 bales. Clear ed in the same lime 11,339 bales—making a re duction in stock of 4808 bales, and leaving on hand, inclusive of all on shipboard not cleared on the 2d instant, a stock 0f213,830 bales. Our last report was made up to Tuesday, when we had occasion toremark that notwithstanding tlic failure of the mail, and the non-receipt of anv further European intelligence per Hibernia, beyond the brief telegraphic summary which came to hand on Sunday, buyers had came for ward quite freely on that day, taking about 4300 bales, at prices fully up to onr quotations, while majny holders claimed an advance, and appeared indifferent about selling until in possession of the foreign advices in full. On Wednesday the mail again failed beyond Charleston, producing further and most vexatious delay in the receipt of the private correspondence and circulars. As the day advanced, however,an impression seemed to he entertained that more ample details of the foreign news were in the hands of seme parties by express, and that the advances in regard to Cofon were of a leas favoiahle character than they anpra ed in the telegraphic summary received on Saturday. This impression led to mote read nest to sell, in some quarters, and the prices he ing somewhat easier, buyers came forward and i took a t*o at 3000 hales. The appearance of copi ous extracts from W illnicr & Smith's European ! Times, in the columns of two of our city papers, on Thursday morning, confirmed the im pression prevalent on Wednesday, that the news was in by private express, and subsequently, on tlie arrival of the mail, which came in at an early hour, the accounts were received in full. This intelligence produced much disappointment and some decline in our market, though not to an ex tent corresponding to that notice abroad; as the rapid falling off in the receipts gives increased ; confidence in the estimates of a short supply and \ induces holders to maintain their position with all tlie firmness possible under the circu nst mccs. i The sales of Thursday were about 3800 hales, j generally considered at a decline ot an } to a } of ; a cent from the full rates previously paid, but yesterday though only a limited business was done, (attributable, perhaps, in some measure, to the fact that it was Good Friday, and the hanks and public offices generally closed) yet the ma.- ket is represented as being quite firm, and the prices paid in the few transactions which took place—amounting in all to 1400 hales—were such that we canqot with propriety make any reduction in our quotations, ami they are then - fore cautioned the same as before the receipt of the Hirhernia’s accounts in full. The total sab s ofthc past three days sum up 10,‘JOG bales, taken principally for England, the No th an I the Conti nent, and during the week 16.700 bales have been disposed of.
