Cleared in the same time 2429 hales—making an addition in stock of 3073 bales, and leaving on hand inclusive of all on shipboard not cleared on the 30ih ultimo, a stock of 207,477 hales. Our last report left the cotton market in a quiet state, as all parties were anxiously awaiting later European accounts by the Cambria, which were considered fully due. The springing up of an ac tive enquiry on Wednesday, immediately after the arrival of the Mobile mail boat, led to the impres sion that later news had been received by express, and rumor stated the tenor of ihe accounts to he favorable to cotton, and unfavorable for bread stuffs. At all events, purchases were made to the client of about 6800 hates, and in most instances the prices paid were, an 1 a ic better than could be obtained during several days previous. On Thursday morning the advices which were acted on were- made public through the columns ot two of our city papers, and proved to be a telegraphic summary of the Cambria’s accounts, as transmit ted to the New York Herald and the Commercial Advertiser. The intelligence thus presented was,* as usual, in a very disjointed and unsatisfactory shape, hut the statement that the Liverpool cotton market had advanced ia Id for tlie week ended on the 20ih March was unexpectedly favorable m its character, while the omission to slate the course of the market during the succeeding week, which ended on the 2d ult., left all parlies in doubt re garding its actual position at the departure of the steamer. Factors, therefore, generally, withdrew their stocks to await the advices in full, and the sales were confined to about 2500 bales, at still firmer prices, the rates paid being i a «c above our last quotations. Y'esterday the letters and comnu rcial circulars were received, confirming the advance conveyed by telegraph, and further stating the improvement to have reached • a Id at the close of the two weeks which ended on the 2d ultimo. The Mobile mail arrived late, and it was not until near one o’clock that tlie letters w ere de livered. Consequently little or nothing was done, as holders were either not offering their stocks, or held them at such advanced rates as deterred buy ers from operating. We could only learn of sales to the extent of some 500 bales, and the closing rates exhibit an advance of ? a i, and in some in stances tc upon the prices at which purchases bad been made before the receipt of the Cambria's ad vices, and our quotations have been altered to con form as nearly as possible to this improvement.— The total sales of the week sum up 1 4,000 bales, of w hich 9800 bales were disposed of during the past three days, taken principally for England and the North. I feel confident in staling that I have made oalua i blc improvements in line gins, and that I shall i hereafter furnish an improved gin to anything I heretofore sold. I would also inform citizens of • Warren, Washington, Wilkes, Columbia and Burke counties, that I have purchased Simpson's improvement for band machinery, and those w ho purchase my gins in the counties named will have the use of the patent tree; the material, when de sired, will be put on the head block, free ot charge. i It will require a small outlay of material on the S band wheel, which will be furnished at the low est possible rate, and which, when used, reduces tfie draft to an astonishing extent; the character of the improvement is simply by propelling the ma- I chincry by a slack band, instead of a tight one.— My finest Friction Roller Gins are sold at $3 per •aw. My plain gins are also greatly improved, and will be sold according to kind, from to 5*2.50 per saw. I have also obtained the certificate of Mr Wilson, our Superintendant and Machinist, who is the best judge of the quality of cotton, as he ‘chew s tire bag.’ Very respectfully your friend truly, THOS. CM EE LEY. Shoals of Ogeeehec. Ga., 1817 This is to cer tify that I have used two of Mr. G. T. Ogleshv’s Anti-Friction Coston Gins, (the one (if) and the other 45 saws,) for several years, and can truly say they are superior to any thing of the kind now is use; and form an excejßion to what is said about this being an age of improvement, at least as far as gin making is concerned. THOMAS CIIEELEY. Brothers' Factory, Shoals of Ogeechee, Ga., j Ma rch 47 th, 1847. — This is to certify that one of j <». T. Oglesby’s GO saw Anti-Friction Cotfon Gins is now, and has been in use for the last four teen mouths at this place, and I can say with con fidence that it is the best article of the kind that 1 have yet seen. B. J. Wilson, Super’tand Practical Machinist. Savannah, March KM, 1*47. The under signed, during the past season, have frequently noticed the superiority of cotton, received from those planters who use gins manufactured by G. T. Oglesby, E>q., of Sparta, over that fiom other i gins. It has invariably commanded the highest price, and very frequently one-fourth of a cent per pound mote than other cottons of the same class. RABUN & FULTON. J. L. SWINNEY. Augusta , February ‘2"ith , 1847.—The under signed Factors and Commission Merchants, take pleasure in recommending to the planters gene rally, G. T. Oglesby & Brother’s improved make of gins, and do not hes tate to «ay that the cotton ginned on them is equal to any received in this market, and in every instance commands from an J to fC. above highest quotations, and in point of durability think they cannot he supassed. Dm & Robertson. Augusta, February 2C th, 1847. We take pleasure in recommending to planters generally Messrs. HEARD & DAVISON. ADAMS, HOPKINS & Co. DOUGHTY & BEALL. February Ist, 1847.
