Dropsical Swellings, Constitutional Disorders and
diseases originating front a depraved or Impure j
state of the Blood or other fluids of the body.
Tlie proprietor of this Alterative would most re- j
spectfully assure the public that be has not offered
this preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until aber
twelve years’experience had manifested iis ureal j
superiority over every other article oi the kind.— :
and lie now recommends it with confidence, It.
believing that the above combination ol medicine
will effectually eradicate from the system a class
of disease some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it re almost every variety of
disease and w ith unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of tl»e glands or impuri
ty of tlie blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in Us w ards oftvven
ly well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu- i
mors, and in every case bet out with perfect arid
entire success.
Ilronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He. has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it ha- never failed in a single instance
to completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. AR werc'Cured.
The success lie has met w ith in curing broncho- i
role and cancerous affections has convinced him j
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be j
removed with as much certainly as Fever and
Ague. He does not w ish to be understood as say- |
ing that they can be cured cs soon as Fever and
Ague, but w iiti as much certainty; and further, that
he has good reason for believing that this prepara- 1
lion will not only <tire these diseases when termed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that ofscrofftta emanate.
Scrofula-King’s Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous cases
ofScrofula. King’k Evff, and scrofulous swellings, |
and always with t he most deci ied success.
Skill Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, and found it successful in curing salt,
rheum, or tetter. Idles, blotches, samples, inorplrew
and jaundiced skin, A:c.
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint*
It lots been used in numerous cases'of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and w ilh ihe happiest effect, !
Tic#Douloureuz.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia,
ami ia every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This prej*aration has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumaisiu, and in every i
casein which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed*
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by '
this preparation. In one of these cases, the man ,
had been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen 1
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five monlle- immediately previous to his taking j
the Alterative he had been confined to his room;
but before lie hail finished the third bottle, lie was
enabled to walk about the streets and soofl after re
turned to his business, from which lie had so Jong
been excluded by his afflictions.
Dropsical Swellings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion,
excites tlie absorbents into healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all
unnatural enlargements are reduced, it imparts
tone and vitality to the whole system, removing [
sick and morbid headaches,giddiness, wardering
pains and nervous affections.
lit fact, in every case where the medicine has j
been taken for some lime, no matter for vvh t pur
pose, the general health of the patient lias always
been improved Uy it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of tlie most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, hronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured l»y
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; but j
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this lime.
CANCER.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative. ,
lit the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed tu the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of IV-ler
Stretch, of Salem, N. J. It vvasexamiued by many I
Physicians, and was considered by all as cancerous, i
and besides bore all tbe characteristic marks of ;
one. Ali probable means of n moving it were used ;
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfalness, until all hope I
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, w Inch, after a consultation oi eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was rcino"ed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three months.afterenduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in- !
deed it had been for several years before, in tlie !
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her bieast j
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap- I
pearance on the right side, immediately over the !
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, prev ions to its removal. This tumor steadi- j
ly increased for several months, and became so I
painful as to deprived her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest thedisease. Indeed her w hole body appear
ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She wasof a verv scrofulous habit,
both her parents having died of I’uhnunary con- |
sumption. The experiment was now made with j
this Alterative. It was at first given in small
closes, three times a day, and the doses very gradu 1
ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long as she
look it, which was about six months, and the skin i
over and around the tumour was wet night and !
morning with a strong solution of lodine and Hy
driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas
ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times
very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and
became soft, and then began to diminish, and con
tinued gradually decreasing until every vestige of
disease was removed. The tumour in her left
breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis
persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
appeared afterwards; and her general health, w hich ;
had been so bad for fourteen years as to make life a
burthen, was effectually and permanently restored.
The proprietor is in possession of the diseased
breast, and those who choose may examine it. He I
would also say that he could mention over a dozen
rases equally interesting, wherein his Alterative
has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he i
has not room here to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge. N. J.,
had a goitrous tumour on tlie left side of her w ind
pipe, as large as tlie half of an orange, which was
cured by this Alterative for about four
months.
Miss R- S—South Fourth-street, Phila- i
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the I
throat, which filled the entire space between the I
chin and breast-hone, and Extended around on i
each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from
her ears to her shoulders, and produced aw ful de 1
formity. It commenced growing when site was
but five years old, and continued gradually to in
crease*unti| she was nineteen, at which time she ;
commenced using this Alterative, w hich she look
for seven months, which entirely reduced the en
largenjerff; and site has now as smooth and pretty j
a nook as can be found. The proprietor is nut at i
.iberty to give her name in print, hut will refer per
son* to her.

Dear Doctor—ll is dilficultto find words to express the
gratitude winch 1 feel towards you for the interest you
have taken to relieve me in my distress. I a the year
1 contracted a heavy cold, which finally settled on
uty lungs; jn u lew months after I commenced coughing
and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bad.
Having beard that Sherman's Lozenges were good for a
cough I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the
least effect on me. I then called in the best physician in the
place, who a tended me a few months, but w ithout su
cess ; 1 then saw an advertisement in one of the city
papersol \\ istar's Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I
purchased three bottles, at thecoruer of Fulton and Nas
sau streets, but 1 could not perceive f e least beneficial
cflect from it, on the contrary I think il was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after Using it I commenced raising
blood in large quantities; 1 was taken dow n sick and
confined to the bouse for three months, during which
time 1 lost my appetiie and fell away very fast; 1 was
then mil iced toconsult Dr, Curtisof New York, (one of
tlie best physicians in the city,) but he could do me no
good. I again became worse, and was confined to the 1
house all last winterund spring, and 1 gave up all hope of
ever getting any better, as I again raised blood and my
cough Was very severe, together with a pain in iny breast
and nnderthe shoulder blade. Mv friends now trove up
all hopeot my recovering, and thought every day was
thelast. A bout this time I heard of your BALSAM OF
t.l\ LRt\ OR f being good for consumption, but 1 was
like many others, -‘td was fearful that it might be a regu
lar humbug; 1 however finally consented to trv it, as 1
thought it could make me no worse. My brother then
purchased abotrte ol it at 37.7 Bowerv, N, V. and I com
menced taking it. and by the time 1 hud used one bottle
full I could sleep all iiurht, and in the iiioriiiiic 1 had an
appetiie for my breakfast. 1 still Keep on taking it and
find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entire
ly gone, and I raise no more blood. Within the last two
months 1 have gained m weight >ix pounds and much in
strong I). I would therefore advise all who have any
afl'ec ion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for 1 truly believe it to
be the best remedy in existence for diseases of the Lungs
or Liv er. Should any one doubt the above state men I re
