this preparation to their notice w ithout due rrt]ec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until alter

l-lieving that the alv.ve combination of medicine
v. ill effectually eradicate from the --vstein a class
r s disease sonm of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He Ins pr-scribed it in almost every variety of j
disease and with unparalleled success, especially ,
in cutaneous a flections, cancerous, scrofulous and j
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.•
C ancer ami Cancerous Tumors.
He. hits used this preparation in upwards oftwen- '
tv well defined cases of cancer and cancerous to- |
nrors, and in every case but one with perfect and ,
entire success.
Dronchocelc or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
Hr has prescribed it in over a hundred eases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance I
to completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
rase of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing broncho- j
celr and cancerous affections has convinced him ;
that these dangerous and horrible, diseases may he i
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. Hr does not w ish to be understood as say
ing that they ran be cured ns soon as Fever and ;
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that j
he”has good reason for believing that this prepara- j
lion will not only < tire these «!isea.ses when formed, 1
hut that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate, j
Scrofula —King** Evil.
'Phis preparation has been used in numerous eases
ofScrofula, King's Evil, and scrofulous swellings,
and always with the most deci :ed success.
Skiu Diseases.
He has prescribed it in a great variety ofeutane
ons affections, and found it successful in coringsalt
rheum, or letter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew
and jaundiced skin, Ac.
Dyspepsia ami Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest died.
Tic-Douloureux.
It has been used in several cases of Neuralgia, I
nml in every case it was successful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
many cases of chronic rheumaism, and in every
casein which it was used until the system became
affected by the medicine, the disease was removed' 1
Gout.
A number of cases of gmn have been cured by ,
this preparation, in one of these cases, the ittan j
had been afflicted vxillt ii so severely fur thirteen !
years as to entirely disable him from business, and
for five months immediately previous to bis taking ■
the Alterative be bad been confined to his room; j
but before he had finished the third bottle, he, was
enabled in w alk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from w hich he had so long
been excluded by his afflictions.
Dropsical Swellings,
Thismcdicine increases the pow ers of digestion,
excites the absorbents info healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all
unnatural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone ami vitality to the whole system, removing
sick and morbid headaches,giddiness, wandering
painsand nervous affections.
In fact, in every ease where the medicine Ins i
been taken for some time, no matter for xvhttpur
(>ose, the general health of the patient has always
>een improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer. hruncliocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
tlii.s medicine, that have ever been recorded; but i
want of room in thissheet precludes their publica
at this lime.
CANCER.
interesting rase cured by Jayne's Alterative.
In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed in the right breast of.Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Hi retch, of Salem, N. J. It wasexatnined by many
I’hvsii4ans,and was considered by all as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of ;
one. All probable means of removing it w ere used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size ami painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was j
abandoned, which, after a consultation ofeminent
Physicians, was performed. Jan. Ist, 1832, by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gent'emen. The
whole and entire right breast was rerao-ed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced hy
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac- -
ter. In about three months.afterenduring incredv
hie, sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. >he remained feeble,
nml her general health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
pearance on the right side, immediately over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
ly increased for several nnu#hs. and became so j
painful as to deprived her of vest. The glands un
der ike right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear
ed to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
both her parents having died of Pulmonary con
sumption. The experiment was now made with
this Alterative. It was at first given in small
doses, three times a day. and the doses very gradu
ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long as she
took it, which w as about six months, and the skin
over and around the tumour was wet night and
morning with a strong solution of lodine atid Hy
ririodale Potash. The tumour continued increas
ing in size for about six weeks, and was at tinyes
very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and the fumourswelled offat the base, and
became soft, and then began to diminish, ami con
tinned gradually decreasing until every vestige of
disease was removed. The tumour in her left ;
breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis
persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever j
appeared afterwards; and her general health, which
had been so bad for fourteen years as to make life a
burthen, was effectually and permanently restored. ■
The proprietor is in possession of the diseased
breast, and those who choose may examine it. He
would also say that he could mention over a dozen
rases equally interesting, wherein his* Alterative
has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he
has not room hereto record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J.,
had a goitrous tumour on the left side of her wind
pipe, as large as the half of an orange, w hich was
cured by using this Alterative for about four
months.
Mi's 11 -S , South Fourth-street, Philft- !
dclphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the j
chin and breast-bone, and extended around on t
each side, of her neck to behind her ears, and from i
her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful de- !
fortuity. It commenced growing when she was
but five years old, ami continued gradually to in
crease until she was nineteen, at which time she
commenced using this Alterative, which she took
for seven months, which entirely reduced them- !
iargement; and she has now as smooth and pretty j
a nack as can be found. The proprietor is not at
ihorty togive her name in print, but will refer per
sons to her.

DearDoctor—llls difficult to find words to express the |

havetak'Mi to relieve me in rny distress. In the year i
I J I2I contracted a heavy rold. which finally settled on I
mv lungs: in a few months after I commenced roughing
and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bad.
Having heard that Sherman's Lozenges were good for a |
cough f tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the
least effect on me. I then called in the best physician in the
place, whoa'lenderl me a few mouths, but without sue j
cess; I then saw an advertisement in one of the city
pjpcrsof Wislar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which 1 |
pur; hared three bottles, at tlteeorner of Fniton and Nas
sau streets, but I could not perceive tl e least beneficial
effect from it, on th" contrary I think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it I commenced raising
blood in large quantities; 1 was taken down sick iturl
confined to the house for three months, during which
timd 1 lost my appetiie and fell away very fast; 1 was i
then induced toconsult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of
the best physicians in the city,) but he rouid do me no
good. I .again became worse, and was confined to tiie
honsealllast winterand spring, and I gave up all hope of j
ever getting any better, as I again raised bloo. I and my j
cough was very severe, together with a pain in my breast ,
and underthe shoulder blade. .Mv friends now gave tip
all hope of my recovering, and thought every day was
the last. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF
I.IVERWORT briuw send fur consumption, hut I was
like many others, -ad was fearful that it might he a regn- j
l«r humbug: I however finally consented to trv it. as 1
thought it could make me no worse. Mv brother then
purchased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery. N. V. and I com- j
mencetl taking it, and by the time 1 had used one bc-tHe
full I could sleep all night, and in the morning Iliad an
apoelite for my breakfast. I'till keep on faking it and |
fill I great benefit from it —the pain in m v breast is entire
ly {tone, and I raise no more blood. Within the last two j
months I have gained in weight six pounds and much in :
streng h. I would therefore advise all who have any 1
affec ion Os the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr. :
