CANCER. An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative. In the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear ed in the right breast ofMrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter ■fetcctch, of Salem, N. J. It was examined by many j Physicians, and was considered byall as cancerous, and besides bore all the characteristic marks of «ne. All probable Eseaus of removing it were u>ed without the slightest benefit. It continued to in- ! crease both in size ami painfniness, until all hope j of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was Abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832, -by JL»r. John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The whole and entire right breast was removed, and af ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by all present a cancer of the most rnalmnant charac- i ter. about three months, afterenduringincredi : ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in spirit, to get about again. (She remained feeble, and her general health was exceedingly bad, as in deed it had been for several years before. In the spring of 1837, upwards of five years alter her breast toad been removed, a painful tumor made its ap- j pearance on the right side, immediately over the 1 ®art formerly occupied by the nipple of the right ® reast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi ly increased for several months, and became so painful as to deprived her of rest'. The glands un der the rightarm were enlarged; and scirrhns, and j A hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap peared in the left breast. No operation could now arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear ed to be a mass of disease, ilerca.se was consid ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit, both her parents having died of Pulmonary con aumption. The experiment was now made with this Alterative, k was at first given in small doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu- ! ally, but steadily increased daily, as long as site i took it, which was about six months, and the skin -over and arouud the UuaoKr was wet night and j morning with a strong solution of lodine and Ily driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto* getter, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then began to diminish, and con tinued gradually decreasing until every vestige of disease was removed. The tumour in her left breast, acd those m her right axilla were also dis persed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and her general health, which bad been so bad for Fourteen years as to rnakc.life a burthen, wm effectually aud permanently restore. l. The proprietor is ia possession of the diseased breast, and those who choose may examine it. He would also say that he could mention over a dozen cases equally mlereatiug, wherein his Alterative | has subdued cancer and cancerous tumours, but he j Has not room here to record them. «- Mrs, Sarah Young, of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J., «.d a goitrous tumour ou the left side of her w ind pipe,as large as the half of an orange, which was eared by using this Alterative for about (our mouths. Miss R——- S .South Fourth-street, Phila delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the throat, which filled the entire space between the | chin and breast-hone, and extended arouno on each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from ' Her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful de formity. ft commenced growing when she was Hut five years old, and continued gradually to in crease until she was nineteen, at which rime site commenced using this Alterative, which she took for seven months, which entirely reduced the en largement; and she I as now as smooth and pretty a neck as can oe found. The proprietor is not at -ibarty togive her name in print, but will refer per- : •on* to her. For sale by WM. K. T ißßvtmvN, Aug. 9, 1844. Dear Doctor—llls didir.iilt ro lir d v.erds to express the gratitude which I feel towards you for the interest you i have taken to relieve mo in my distress. In the year IB4g I contracted a heavy coid. which finally settled on nty lungs; in a few months after 1 commenced coughing ! and raising offensive matter, which smelt very bad. 1 Having he ml that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a 1 cough I tried a few boxes of them, but they hud not the I least ertect mine. I then called in the best physician m the • place, who attended me a few months, but without sue cess; I then saw an advertisement in one of the city ! papersof Wistur’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I | pur- based three bottles, at thecorner of Fulton and Nas sau streets, but I could o.rt perceive the least beneficial effect from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in jury to me. Shortly after using it I commenced raising blood in large quantities ; I was taken down sick and . confined to the house fur three months, during which time I lost my appnUte and fell away very fast, I was I then induced to consult Dr. Curtisof New York, (one of the best olivsiciana in >w j. j good. I again became worse, and was confined to the house alllas.t winterand spring.and 1 gave up all hope of ever getting any better, as 4 again raised blood and ray ‘ cough was very severe, together with a pain in my breast ( nnduuderlhe shoulder blade. Mv friends now gave up all liopeof my recovering, and thought every day was J thelast. About this time I heard of your BALBAM OF LIVERWORT heing good for consumption, bull was 1 like many others, -»nd was fearful -that it might be a regu- 1 lar humbug; I however finally consented to try it, as i thought it could make me no worse. My brother then I purchased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. V.. and I com- f nienced taking it, and by the time I had used one bottle * full I could sleep all night, and in t lie morning Iliad an 4 appetite for my breakfast. 1 still keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the pain in my breast is entire ‘ lygone.aad I rai?e no more blood.
